As an ex-meat-eater, I'm always looking for a good simulation of what I used to enjoy, such as a burger. Enter Burger Lounge, a new place with a fairly tasty veggie burger option, in the newly renovated Sherman Oaks shopping center on Van Nuys Blvd. which used to be a frequent destination for Humphreys Yogart and Blockbuster video, may they both rest in peace.
This is an order at the counter, and they bring it to your table kind of place.
The veggie burger tasted pretty good, a good savory flavor that was reminiscent of what I remember a burger tasting like, and it's house made so not one of those cookie cutter garden burger type things you get at other places. However the problem with at Mannis house made burgers is that they tend to fall apart when you eat them, and as good is this tasted, a lot up on the plate in front of me. The two cheese options are white cheddar and yellow American cheese, I'm kind of a yellow cheddar fan so was disappointed that there weren't other cheese options available.
Also they had a burger option for a kid (and we had our kid with us) however they weren't “allowed” to substitute the veggie burger for the regular burger in the kids meal. Since our kid is a vegetarian we ended up having to buy him a full priced email, which just didn't seem right. Please Burger Lounge, have a heart and add a veggie burger meal to your kids menu or allow people to substitute the regular meat burger with a veggie burger option.
Also the veggie burger has gluten and dairy in it so it wouldn't be suitable for folks to avoid either of those items.
They also got my order wrong initially but very quickly corrected it. The staff was very friendly positive and enthusiastic.
Burger Lounge kind of reminds me of a reinvented 50s diner with a modern sensibility in terms of decor and all the milkshakes walking around.
As a bonus they also offer Coca-Cola in glass bottles from Mexico. And as we all now cooking glass bottles from Mexico is better than any other form of cool that you could have. And for the healthy minded, although you're still drinking soda many craft sodas are available.
We definitely would try burger lounge again, but would probably do so sooner if some of the issues addressed above were taken care of. (Especially the veggie burger for...
Read moreHappy Hour as of May 2022 is Monday - Thursday from 3p-5p. It's a narrow window, but the value is unbeatable! 50% off of the burgers, beer and wine. I'm beginning to love this place already.
Came in here with a buddy, and we had really great service! You walk up to the counter, place your order, and then sit down at one of the tables. They bring the food out to you.
The quality of the hamburger is exceptional! You can actually taste the beef in the meat. No artificial anything here. And it shows. Very flavorful oh, tasty, tangy, you get the notes of sweet and tangy from the 1000 Island dressing, and a decent-sized burger as well.
The Patty itself is cooked in a way that makes it crunchy around the edges. So you have the texture of medium doneness in the middle, and then crunchy towards the edges.
The bun is great too... it's soft, chewy and Airy, kind of like a brioche met a croissant. But without all the butter. Definitely tasted fresh baked.
There are a couple tables outside, then about I'd say around seating for 12-15 in the first room, another 15-20 seats or so down the row that goes in the back towards the bathrooms.
The vibe in here is definitely a casual place. I don't really know how to compare this place, it's like if you took a Habit and threw in alcohol.
It's the kind of spot where maybe you were craving a beverage and a burger, but didn't want to spend a fortune at a bar or fancy Steakhouse place.
If you're a casual date kind of person, this is the perfect spot for you. Something quick and easy, simple, nothing fancy. Meet a friend here for late lunch, early dinner type thing.
If you're a tourist, even better! You can't beat the value of 50% off for the quality of food that you get.
If you're the type of people who are bicycle riders, motorcycle riders, looking for a spot to grab a bite to eat and a beverage during the week, this is the place for you. This location is close to Ventura Boulevard, on Van Nuys. So maybe you just came down from bicycle riding Mulholland?
As long as this place has that happy hour special, I will definitely be back...
Read moreThe first time I ate at this restaurant, my paleo turkey burger (I don't eat red meat) over grilled zucchini (without bacon as I don't eat pork) was so great that I couldn't wait to come back. The second time I ate here, my grilled zucchini was so hard, that I couldn't cut it with a fork, so I was given a knife, but still had trouble cutting the zucchini, so I sent it back. The third time I ate at this place, I ordered the zucchini well done and explained I would like to be able to cut it with a fork, but it still arrived uncooked and had to be sent back. The fourth time, which will be my last time eating at this restaurant, I ordered the same food, no bacon, and explained that I wanted the zucchini well done, to which the cashier said, "I hear that a lot.". I then waited and waited for my food to arrive while everyone at my table was eating their food so it didn't get cold. I waived someone over to the table to ask what happen to my food and was told that there was a kitchen error and my food was delivered to another customer, who I then watched receive his correct food, after he ate my food. Fries and onion rings were delivered to our table as a gift while we waited for my meal, but few of these were eaten as everyone else had just finished their meal. When my meal was finally delivered with bacon (which I was told, "If you're not allergic to it, just remove it") over the turkey patty, which was so overcooked and dry that it actually flaked into pieces when cut, and zucchini, which still was completely uncooked and could not be cut by a fork. So, where my husband and my grandsons would give the burgers at this place 5 stars, I will not...
