KOPAN SUSHI & RAMEN is an intimate, izakaya* eatery that's part of a twelve restaurant, southern California chain. Named "Kopan" to honor the flavorful meals of KObe JaPAN.
The restaurant contains an enclosed patio, sushi bar seating, and intimate booths.
Kopan does not accept reservations. You may request seating on their website or on the computer tablet located at the eatery's entrance. We requested seating on the Internet from home, and were seated about 30 minutes later. (Home is 15 minutes away.)
The app reported there were four groups ahead of us. You are notified on your cellphone when a table is available and must be at the restaurant when called.
The colorful menu contains beautiful thumbnails of artistically created sushi. Our server, Jose, made helpful suggestions. Kopan's chefs elegantly re-create the thumbnails.
I ordered the Vegan Ramen Bowl. The large, delicious stew is a mix of lightly cooked vegetables (cabbage, red cabbage, broccoli, mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes, corn, bean sprouts, seaweed, Ramen noodles, and tofu, served in a rich, slow cooked vegetable broth. Offered at three levels of spice, I choose the mild flavor. It was warm, flavorful, and lightly spicy.
My wife ordered the Bento Box: miso soup, teriyaki chicken, brown rice, garden salad, and her choice of a sushi roll. She choose an avocado roll and found the combination delicious. (She shared a couple of pieces of the vegan roll with me. It was really good.)
Kopan's unique, aesthetically pleasing eatery provides a comfortable environment in which to enjoy their excellent sushi, ramen, and caring service. (Yeah, we liked it.)
A Word Of Caution: In the evening, park in the free ADA compatible lot directly behind the building. Reached by driving down the entrance ramp into the lower garage, stay straight, turn right at the wall, and make a quick left turn into the narrow up ramp to the ground level lot. The path to the restaurant's entrance is ADA compatible. Exit by reversing.
STUFF: We came for dinner and parked in the ADA compatible garage, located under the restaurant. Leaving, I discovered the elevator was turned off and could not find a staircase. The ramp into the garage was too steep to walk. I returned to the restaurant to ask for help and was first told there was nothing they could do. A few minutes later the restaurant manager, Joshua, saved the day by offering to drive my car to street level.

Read moreI really hate leaving bad reviews but the decent/good reviews is what brought us there to give it a try. I must say it’s the worst tasting ramen I have ever had. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with “fatty” pork (pork belly). I added fried garlic and shiitake mushrooms (and thank god I did). We were asked what level of heat we wanted and I asked for medium and my boyfriend wanted hot. The soup came with noodles, seaweed, sprouts, corn, pork, and my Garlic and mushrooms on the side. I noticed the broth had a white-ish color to it. It tasted like it had cream in it (but was told it didn’t contain cream). The broth had not only no heat but ZERO flavor. Honestly.. no taste plus that weird creamy texture, not my cup of tea. We asked for spicy chili on the side in attempt to salvage it. The chilli sauce had no heat either. I added soy sauce desperate for some umami.. really cup o noodles has more taste than this broth. The pork was not tender no flavor and had a slight aftertaste. I had two bites of it & gave up. The noodles weren’t worth eating since the broth wasn’t tasty. I picked at my shitake mushrooms and garlic and called it a day. 2 soups and tip set us back about $45! We left feeling very disappointed &...
Read moreAte here with my grandparents, food was OK but our experience with the staff was AWFUL. They bring us the bill without a pen so my grandma gets up to get a pen and trips and falls over a poorly placed plant. Not ONE Staff member came over to even ask if my grand mother was ok. Thankfully some other guests helped me get her up and make sure she was alright. Unbelievable but it doesn't end there, my grandpa is in his 80s and can be forgetful, we get the pen and he writes the tip on the bill, but the staff forgot to take his card so we thought we were paid and ready to leave, at this time we are out the door and my grandma is in pain from falling and a staff member comes RUNNING out telling my grandpa he didn't pay. So nobody comes to help my grandma but they were sure quick to run outside after us. They didn't ask if she was okay or anything which is really surprising because she got Injured on there property so now were hiring lawyer to make them pay. Very very very terrible...
