This is a beloved local place that has entrees from 10 to $30 offering an array of standard and novel Mexican dishes. The food is tasty, flavorful, and high quality food products. The service is superb at all levels. Most of the people who work there have been employed by the organization 20 and 30 years, as all of the employees are listed with their time of service at the front door. It's remarkable. The only drawback is that, in spite of the interesting and pretty decor, it seems like there could be a little more done with it to add to the already nice experience. The food and service are both there, but I wish they had created more of a moment and a unique experience by pushing into the culture a little more with either music or quiet live music, or some other tokens of interest. Very good. Worth going back. Kind people.

La Cabana has been around since the 60's and not much as changed there. Parking is easy and the service is pretty good. The food is traditional Mexican food and it is good, not great. They have the typical combo plates and they have a few nice desserts. Their drinks are good with a nice selection of call liquors. What is great about this place and sets it apart from other typical Mexican restaurants is that they make their own tortillas and they are always fresh, at times you need to wait a minute for someone to make them. They are always worth the wait. If you are in Venice, this is a good place to stop before or after the beach. If you are no where near it, the time is better spent elsewhere. They have take out and delivery as well.

The building and neighborhood looks like they offer old school muggings and occasional drive by shootings, a place to experience Americana. We came here for Happy Hour tacos, which seems somewhat redundant (even merely the word tacos makes me happy). The food did not disappoint, it made me very happy. The place being empty we were offered a table inside or out. At first I thought they meant sitting on the curb. While I do enjoy street food, I chose a booth. It turns out, outside is this very lovely and secluded terrace decorated for a perpetual quinceañera. Very charming. The food was simple, yet delicious, the service thoughtful and attentive, and the ambiance welcoming (you to the 60s). I loved it.

A Masterclass in Service, Flavor, and Vibes! I had the pleasure of dining at La Cabaña in Venice, and I can honestly say this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in years. The food was amazing, but what made the night truly unforgettable was Jose Luis, our absolutely phenomenal waiter.

As a pescatarian, eating out at traditional spots can be hit or miss, but Jose Luis? He was a one-man dream team. I didn’t even have to ask a single question. He immediately walked me through the menu, called out every hidden ingredient that could’ve been a problem, and offered swaps without hesitation. It was like he read my mind and cleared every roadblock before I even hit them. No second-guessing, no awkward back-and-forth, just straight-up expert-level hospitality.

And the food? So good. I ordered the refried beans (which had NO lard 🙌🏽) and they were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had, creamy, flavorful, and perfect. I also had the cheese quesadilla, and I’m still thinking about how buttery and crispy it was on the outside with melty, delicious goodness inside. Simple, comforting, and done so, so right.

To top it all off, I’m working on my Spanish, and Jose Luis didn’t just humor me, he encouraged me, gently corrected me, and made the entire interaction feel fun and empowering. He created such a warm, respectful vibe that made me feel welcomed, understood, and celebrated. Jose Luis is the gold standard of service. If you find yourself at La Cabaña, do everything in your power to sit in his section. He turns a meal into a memory.

Gracias, Jose Luis! We...

Their margaritas are reaaaaally good. We had a pitcher of the mango one and it was extremely authentic. The flavor of the alcohol matched the flavor of the mango. Honestly, one of the best margaritas out there. I can't wait to try the Cadillac margarita! I had the El Verde Burrito with chicken and it went so well with a few drinks. It's definitely refried beans in the burrito, so consider that before buying. It's HUGE, too. And, it's cheaper than the guacamole starter and the cheese quesadilla! My other friend got fish tacos a la carte and she really liked them, too. The chips and salsa to start we all devoured. Seriously, the salsa's hot, too which we all loved. Overall, if you're a group of friends, go with the pitcher of the margaritas and grab the burrito or order a la carte (If money's the main concern). What really won me over was the ambiance and the service. The ambiance feels like we're in a real adobe restaurant in Mexico like we're about to walk onto a cobble stone pathway. And, the restaurant is really pretty at night. We had a late night meal and the manager and our waiter were treating us very well. I miss service like this....

I was visiting some friends from Toronto in LA who live(d) just a few minutes drive from La Cabaña and insisted we go there for dinner one night. I'd been to a ton of Mexican spots, but this one instantly became my favourite (maybe on earth) after I had their carne asada. Theirs is just perfectly seasoned and gives off this incredible deeply smoky/charred flavour which leaves my mouth watering just thinking about it. While that's my favourite dish of theirs (and one of my top 10 favourites ever), all the other items on their menu are right up there in terms of quality, freshness, and taste. I probably went 3-4 more times on that one trip alone after my friends showed me the place and can't wait to go back next time I'm in town. I also have to mention the incredible vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant, both inside and out. My favourite is sitting out back in the courtyard/patio on a warm night- could happily spend all night there! Incredible restaurant and a...
