The Aliza isn't a bad place but it's not what it's cracked up to be, either. First, it isn't really a hotel, per se. It's an old school, Route-66 motor court, with the rooms arranged around a central courtyard parking area. Parking is limited, with only enough spaces for about 1/2 the rooms. Second, the rooms are clean, comfortable and stylish in a minimalistic way, but they're incredibly basic. The only amenities in my room were Roku TV, fairly high-end toiletries, and a mini fridge. No coffee maker, no microwave, not even an iron/ironing board. There's not even an ice machine on the property. Third, the rooms do not have AC. You're left to the mercy of ocean breezes. Since the property is about a mile inland from the beach, that can be hit or miss. My room had good ventilation and a solid little WooZoo fan so it cooled off nicely. However, that leads me to my most important point - security. In order to catch those ocean breezes, you have to open all the windows and pull back all the drapes. Not only was my room vulnerable to a break in, I had no privacy. This is especially true for rooms 7-12. They run along the back end of the property and border the alley that runs behind it. There is a chain link fence separating the property from the alley but it's only about 18 inches from the building. In other words, anyone walking down the alley could look right into my room. It looks like management is trying to grow some vines to provide screening but they haven't completely grown in yet. As a result of the open windows, you also get to hear everything going on around the property, like the homeless man standing in front of the parking lot screaming at the top of his lungs for 25 minutes, or the conversations of folks walking through the alley. In addition, staff is only on site from 10A-6P. The rest of the time, you're on your own. (This includes check in and check out - you receive a code to access the room, and another one to signal you've checked out.) In summary, the Aliza is in no way a "boutique hotel". It's a Motel 6 with better beds and nicer shampoo. The only thing "boutique" about it is the price; this shouldn't be a $220+/night property. It's not the worst place I've ever stayed but...
Read moreExtremely disappointing experience! My flight was canceled at the last minute, leaving me stranded with no other options for two days. While the manager, Daniel, was initially friendly, he quickly began dodging my calls, claiming he was âtoo busyâ and could only respond via text. Even given the situation, they rigidly hid behind a no-cancellation policy, offering zero flexibility or support to adjust or cancel my stay. Not only did they refuse to accommodate my request, but they also upheld the full charge, despite not providing the service I had paid for. Very poor customer service!
Dear Aliza Hotel Team,
Thank you for your response. I only wish this level of attentiveness had been present when I initially faced these issues.
While itâs true that Daniel responded at first, he soon dodged my calls and, notably, ignored my last text confirming my stay for Saturdayâwhen I could finally reach Los Angeles. Despite your claim, he knows well he left my message unanswered, which is both unprofessional and inexcusable. If Daniel insists he responded, Iâd appreciate seeing the proof, as I am confident it does not exist.
It's funny that you ignored my email last week, but as soon as I posted this review, I finally got a response. I'll be sharing this experience on Booking.com too since my reservation was never actually canceled by the hotel, yet I was still charged for a stay...
Read moreThis place was amazing. I traveled with my boss in search of locations for a new restaurant, and I canât recommend the family bungalow enoughâperfect for meetings and esp seperation of space if ur traveling as a family or with a few friends.
The management is professional, fair, and incredibly easy to contact. When my boss GF forgot her purse, it was promptly returned to me with all her valuables intactâjust another example of the honesty and efficiency.
They have a charming little office space where you can enjoy coffee or tea, making it feel like a home away from home. Its perfect for any traveler or even a group âjust be sure to book in advance since itâs a smaller property.
Overall, no need to take a fall or have any bad experiences to find a true hidden gemâ-Aliza is it. If youre searching for an authentic local experience away from the chains then...
