Pretty solid cafe eatery on an up and coming / developing street filling up with more modern businesses to attract the hood. Drinks are fantastic, great espresso pulls and their signature drinks are Chef’s Kiss delicious. Have had their Ube, Horchatta and Andante Lattes, and all are equally unique and well balanced. Surprisingly or maybe not, the food is equally amazing. Their food menu is far from an afterthought. Quality, and well seasoned. You know they got that ethnic touch when they actually season the eggs unlike most places with a breakfast sandwich on the menu! It’s a pretty extensive menu for food as well. I’ve only managed to eat said sandwich and the Ube Waffles and I was sold. As for pastries they did have some croissants which were alright. If I can dock a star and be nit picky, the design of this place is incredibly brutal-minimalist, almost something you’d find in lower Manhattan or Soho. And you can feel it. It’s pretty uncomfortable to sit inside with it’s wide concrete built-in benches with tiny barely high off the seat tables that easily topple over. Generally this kind of design while modern, is to detract from people hanging out too long. But most hipsters are not gonna care anyway. They have outdoor seating too along the narrow patio with a more comfortable seating arrangement. So it’s slightly more comfortable than indoors.
They also have a small parking lot which is always a godsend out here in this barren wasteland of parking spaces. So you should definitely...
Read moreSituated at the sharp corner of Glendale Blvd and Laveta Terrace, the coffee shop takes up a stand alone building. Small, but stylish, its look hits all the right notes for me: minimalist, raw and slick, somber yet luminous. The smooth, almost glossy grey concrete goes straight from walls to seating surfaces and the coffee bar at the end of the room. No green plants, just dry brown grass, matching the wooden blocks and boards that look endearing with wear and tear. I was thrilled—I have never seen a coffee shop like this.
But that was also the closest I have come to like Laveta. I had flat white and cortado here. They range from good to passable, and the presentation can be quite casual. I wasn't impressed. Even more disappointing is the lukewarm service. During my three visits there were three different baristas and not once I felt genuinely welcome. It took as long as the time to make two drinks for one of the baristas to make eye contact, even though it was an empty room with two other customers sitting aside waiting for their drinks and I was in front of him the whole time. I felt as if I didn't stand by the bar but in his way of a...
Read moreI really love this coffee shop. The interior was really simple - an aesthetic of its own. There’s an interesting menu - a variety of great breakfast and lunch items, everything sounded really good. I got the ube latte and the chicken salad bowl; I was hesitant on getting the chicken salad because I thought it was going to be generic and like every other chicken salad I’ve had with the same generic toppings but they made their own twist to it with orange dressing and flavored chicken. Even the vegetables in it were in variety. The ube latte definitely tasted like ube - it’s good if you love ube! I prefer matcha overall but it was still an interesting flavor. I recommend coming here if you’re wanting something light and not heavy, a quick breakfast or lunch pick up. The seating was also along the wall and limited with benches and small round table. Great place to hangout with people but probably not a good place to have a private...
