Lenzini's makes what I call a standard coventional oven parlor pizza, or what the one bite dude calls a "football" pizza, who knows why. A chewy outer crust ring, plenty of cheese and sauce, more substantial than a thin, crispy New York. Lenzini's calls themselves "authentic", but what? Not Italian of course, this is far from a Neopolitan style.
As you can see from the pictures below, the pizza looks good. The sauce and cheese on the first one fell short of the crust ring, but they cured that on the second. It also has a lot of flop, but I don't care about droopiness in this style of pizza, and I didn't take that into account in the rating. There was also a bit of oil sheen on the most recent try.
Unfortunately, that's all they fixed, this is not a pizza, it's a cheese pie, there's hardly any sauce, and little flavor. The bite off the point should be lush and saucy, but it's just not there, and the cheese is rather odd, a bit chewy. I don't see that as a problem, just interesting. The outer crust ring is fine, soft and chewy, with a little crisp in spots. But there's nothing on the tongue but cheese and dough.
I don't enjoy saying bad things, but if you want this pizza, by all means ask for extra sauce, maybe double extra. That might make it better, if the sauce is good, but I can't rank a pizza on what it might be. I gave it three stars, I guess because you can fix this at home by spreading some tube tomato paste under the cheese with some herbs or parm perhaps, and refreshing it in a convection oven. A bit of work, but it does become edible, although I also had to wipe off the oil on the most recent example. It's a borderline three really.
There are much better alternatives in range, Johnnie's and Fat Tomato on Washington, both excellent, and Pizzarito on Glencoe, who have recently upped their game to be contenders in this style.
Access is easy from MdR, up 90 to Culver, just in range even for the west side blocks. And of course it's in range from all the endless...
Read moreTheir biggest strength here is their pizza. Good quality crust from dough made inside the restaurant, solid cheese and sauce, and excellent toppings. I would recommend the Greek pizza. The banana peppers and feta cheese are good compliments. I cannot say the same about the gyro and the fries. The size of the gyro has gotten smaller, and there is considerably less meat. They also drench the poor thing in sauce. The fries are baked, not fried, and underdone which results in a soft consistency that does not suit fries well. The people there are very friendly, but be prepared: if they say it will take 12 minutes for an order, be prepared to...
Read moreHave ordered from here several times from Lenzini's (pick up only), and we have enjoyed good consistent pizza, wings, and garlic bread. The interior of the building is currently in a bit of disrepair due to them just opening, but hopefully it will look a bit more put together soon. In addition the online ordering system does not have all of their menu offerings and the prices are currently cheaper on their online ordering system then their physical menu, I am assuming this will be resolved soon, assuming this is again due to their recent relocation. I would like to see weekly single pizza specials, other then their current yelp check...
