August 2022. I visited this restaurant for lunch after reading the raving reviews. There was no buffet. We ordered some appetizers which were medium grade. We ordered a popular mutton dish( Kolapuri Sukka masala) . The gravy looked very pasty and old. There was barely 2 small cubes of meats which was covered in fat and tendons. What a disappointment that it cost $16.95. There was hardly any meat in it. The yogurt lassi and the red chutney sauce with the Dosa had a very bad sour taste to it. To end all this mess we ordered a Falooda. Their Falooda claimed to have kulfi, glass noodles, rose flavored milk and basil seeds. What I received was a glass of rose flavored milk with barely any noodles basil seeds. That Glass of flavored milk was $6.95. Mind you a whole gallon of milk these days cost about five dollars. There was no Kulfi in it and the milk also seemed to have separated like small curd floating cottage cheese. I am sure at one point this restaurant may have been good in all its glory. But right now the service, quality, professionalism has all gone down to the drain. The young man that was our server was very new. Obviously he did not receive enough training so we felt really bad for him. For every question or inquiry we had he had to go in the kitchen and ask the kitchen lady to provide an answer. He did not even know how to use the cash register. How irresponsible of the manager/owner to put somebody like that in the front. He was trying hard and seemed to be a kind young man. Our meal was about $25 per person. Not at all...
Read moreExplore the flavors of Maharashtra at Mother India Restaurant, a place where food tells the story of the state's rich history and diverse culture. Unlike typical Indian cuisine, Maharashtrian food has its unique charm, blending local ingredients with influences from Persian, Maratha, and British cooking.
Maharashtrian cuisine is known for its bold and well-balanced flavors. Imagine biting into a vada pav, a popular Bombay street snack. It's a spicy potato patty in a soft bun, served with tangy chutneys that create a dance of sweet, sour, and spicy tastes in your mouth.
The restaurant's menu celebrates classic dishes like pav bhaji, misal pav, and bhakri, showcasing the love for hearty, soul-satisfying meals in the region. Bhakri, a dense millet flatbread, is a perfect example of Maharashtrian creativity, served with spicy thecha (chili garlic chutney) for an extra kick.
But here's the key: when you visit Mother India Restaurant, don't expect the same dishes you'd find at a Punjabi or South Indian place. While they might have South or North Indian items, their twist reflects the flavors of Maharashtra, which can be quite different from the originals. It's a delicious journey into a unique culinary world that you won't...
Read moreWORST…WORST..WORST.. We went to the restaurant for lunch by seeing all the good reviews, but unfortunately it was a horrible experience for us. We ordered two mutton biryani and one chicken biryani and coconut chicken curry with naan.. We never ate this kind of biryani in our life time, they actually mixed the mutton curry with tamarind rice and served as mutton biryani. Same thing for the Chicken biryani. Then you can imagine the taste of the biryanis, nothing more to explain on that. We tried all our best to eat that biryani but unfortunately we were failed in that mission. I guess the cooks never tasted a biryani in their life time, it was like that. The coconut chicken curry was smelled a little, seems they preserved it for long time. If you are biryani lover, please do not even try at this restaurant. It’s waste of money, waste of time and most importantly it’s INJURIOUS TO...
