Othello's is My New Favorite Spot!!!
If you're looking for a dining experience that is nothing short of magical, Othello's Plant-Based Kitchen in Woodland Hills should be at the top of your list. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a friendly staff, with a warm and inviting atmosphere, matched only by the incredible talent, passion and hands-on care of the chef and owner, Norm. He's created a menu that redefines vegan cuisine and satisfies even the most devoted carnivores (myself included!).
Let's start with the food--because it's truly the star of the show. Every dish I've tried has been an explosion of flavor, crafted with care and creativity. The chili is a standout on its own or smothered over a baked potato. The fried chicken sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich, and chili cheeseburger are all must-tries, with the sandwiches served on soft, flavorful pretzel bread. And if you're skipping bread, their pulled pork salad, fried chicken salad, and mixed salad are equally delicious.
Their chili Fritos, sloppy Joe, and pulled pork sandwich are phenomenal, as are their ultimate fries and chili fries--perfectly indulgent and packed with flavor. The meatloaf? Incredible. The sauces? Next level. From the garlic and chive sauce to the smoky chipotle, and a trio of ranch variations (buffalo ranch, peppercorn ranch, and the classic ranch), each one elevates the dishes to gourmet status. Even the coleslaw is an experience on its own--crisp, fresh, and perfectly balanced.
And let's not forget the heartier options like the enchiladas, lasagna, and Italian meat sauce with pasta--all bursting with rich, bold flavors that feel indulgent yet nourishing. It's hard to believe this is vegan food, and if all vegan meals tasted this good, I'd happily give up meat entirely. Additionally, I have to mention the fresh smoothies, fresh lemonades and delicious desserts including, sweet potato and pecan pie!
The commitment to quality and sustainability at Othello's makes you feel even better about dining here. From the thoughtfully prepared dishes to the eco-conscious details (down to the utensils!), every aspect of your visit feels intentional and inspired.
This spot has quickly become one of my family's favorite places for both lunch and dinner. Whether you're craving comfort food or looking to explore diverse, plant-based options, Othello's has something for everyone. Vegan or not, you owe it to yourself to try this culinary gem. Start with any dish on the menu, and work your way down--you won't regret it! Every bite is a testament to the passion and creativity behind this kitchen.

Read moreThe OTHELLO'S PLANT BASED KITCHEN, is a unique, delicious, order-at-the-counter restaurant. Chef Norman recreates the textures and tastes of America street foods. (There are several other dishes on the menu, lasagna and salads for example, but we came for the street food.)
Junior, takes your order. He knows the menu and can make suggestions. If your diet requires Gluten-Free, just ask. Then grab a table and enjoy the crystal clear music. Your wait will be short.
I ordered the Beyond Burger served on a pretzel bun. The thick sandwich is topped with sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, chopped sweet onion, cucumber slices, and vegan salad dressing. The generous sandwich was delicious.
My companion ordered the Sloppy Joe, served on a pretzel bun with a side of coleslaw. The SloppyJoe contains vegan "ground beef" in a slightly spicy tomato sauce, that was most satisfying. The accompanying coleslaw compliments with its cool crisp flavor.
When your carry-out or eat-in order is ready, Junior double checks and supplies the utensils.
STUFF: Free parking with many spaces. Lots of ADA compatible spaces. The wheelchair compatible bathroom is down the hall on the left.
Buying food from street vendors has been popular for a long time. The earliest evidence of street food dates back to the beginning of civilization, around...
Read moreToday was my second visit. My first visit was a few weeks ago. I was craving vegan lasagna and did a quick search in my area. The lasagna was absolutely delicious. It was so tasty and the perfect portion size. My goal for visiting today was to try one of their chili dishes. It seemed that the lovely young lady at the counter could read my mind. She told me that they had samples of the chili and the meat sauce. Baybee!! That meat sauce is theee best thing I've eaten in a long while. I almost abandoned my mission. But I stayed the course and ordered the chili cheese burger with fries and garlic and chives side sauce. It was huge, well seasoned and very delicious. These days it's hard to find an affordable vegan burger that you need to hold with two hands. I'm not ashamed to say that I ate to my heart's content and left no crumbs. Their hospitality is worth mentioning as well. Everyone I have interacted there has been so lovely. During my meal, this nice gentleman inquired whether I was enjoying my meal and asked if I needed anything. Think he might be the owner. I was very grateful for the free lemon water since it was over 100 degrees today. The cutlery seems biodegradable. That's super cool. The decor is as warm and inviting as the people who work there. I'm looking forward to my next visit and trying...
