Ronnie's Diner: A Culinary Oasis in the City of Angels In a city known for its fleeting trends and ephemeral hotspots, Ronnie's Diner stands as a testament to the enduring power of classic American comfort food, executed to perfection. From the moment you step through the door, you're enveloped in a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels less like a restaurant and more like a cherished memory. The cozy booths, the gentle clatter of cutlery, and the friendly hum of conversation all combine to create a dining experience that is both timeless and utterly delightful. The menu at Ronnie's is a love letter to the American diner, featuring all the beloved classics you know and adore, but with an unwavering commitment to quality and freshness that sets it apart from the rest. The ingredients are so fresh you can taste the California sunshine in every bite. The burgers are a masterclass in simplicity and flavor, with juicy, perfectly cooked patties and the freshest of toppings. The sandwiches are piled high with premium meats and cheeses, and the breakfast, available all day, is nothing short of legendary. The pancakes are light and fluffy, the bacon is crisp and smoky, and the coffee is always hot and fresh. But what truly elevates Ronnie's from a great diner to an unforgettable one is the staff. The service is attentive, friendly, and genuinely warm. You're not just a customer at Ronnie's; you're family. The staff takes real pride in their work, and it shows in every interaction. They're happy to offer recommendations, accommodate special requests, and ensure that your dining experience is nothing short of perfect. In a city of stars, Ronnie's Diner is a shining example of what a restaurant should be: a place where the food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, and the people are friendly. It's a place where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy a taste of classic Americana. Whether you're a lifelong Angeleno or a first-time visitor, a meal at Ronnie's is an experience you won't soon forget.

Sorry for taking a picture of the leftovers šŸ˜… I was really hungry. The scrambled eggs with bacon and avocado were tasty. I ordered mine with an omelet, and it was good. They also served muffins with some kind of sauce—it wasn’t too great, but the pancakes with cinnamon and a sweet sauce (a white liquid, not sure what it was) were delicious. Overall, not the best, but you can put together a decent breakfast here. I highly recommend the apple juice—it was tasty. The atmosphere is pretty basic, though the ceiling decorations are nice, and looking towards the window-side tables turned out to be pleasant. :) The service gets a 3 because the waitress wasn’t very polite, and when the bill was brought, she couldn’t calculate everything correctly the first time. Then she left for a long time to recheck it.

A little diamond in the rough. Quaint breakfast/lunch diner with just enough charm to make it feel cozy and familiar (note the creative coffee-mug/thermos ceiling mobile). Menu has the right amount of options without feeling overwhelming (with a varied selection of "healthy things," as it is listed). Coffee is terrific. ā˜•ļø Wait staff is also dynamite. Priscilla T. smiled and literally delivered the food seconds after taking our order. Parking lot is small so plot route accordingly. šŸš‚ Railroad buffs will notice roadbed of former Pacific Electric streetcar line running parallel with busy Culver Blvd., now lined with palm trees and choking traffic (well done, America).

listen, i’ll give it 5 stars because i’m a nice guy and it’s what i do… but i do have a MAJOR qualm:

the ā€œbreakfast entreeā€ section of the menu explicitly states that every meal comes with a choice of side AND toast, thereby it may be reasonably inferred that every meal under this sub section of the menu will be complemented by a side AND toast. in other words, you’ll get the meal you ordered (huevos rancheros, etc). but on top of this meal, you’ll be served a side of your choice AND toast.

so now let me set the scene. i’m sitting in a quaint table outside with my betrothed. i’m scanning the menu. my mouth is watering and my stomach is aching as one particular meal from the ā€œbreakfast entreeā€ section catches my eye. a base of an english muffin, topped by a layer of thick, juicy ham under the melting bubble of a poached egg, all smothered with hollandaise sauce—the eggs benedict of course. i planned to complement this with a side of my choice, in this case some plump breakfast potatoes. i was overjoyed. however, all of this pales in comparison to the selling point: two crisp slices of sourdough toast, perfectly browned on the edges, and layered delicately by a thin film of jelly (one grape, one marionberry). the world perfect, and i sat at the top of it. but oh how quickly it all came falling down

when i asked the server for the eggs benedict, i was asked for my choice of side (as expected). i sat at the edge of my seat in anticipation for the next question: the choice of toast. to my dismay, this question never came. you can imagine the shock and betrayal i felt. ā€œwhat gives, dude!ā€ i exclaim to the server (not verbatim). ā€œwhat about my toast!ā€ she explained that the eggs benedict (very clearly listed under the ā€œbreakfast entreeā€ section, mind you) did not include a side of toast, because the english muffin already plays the bread role in this meal.

i was livid (although i kept a calm outward appearance, as i am a respectful and responsible class act). an english muffin is not toast. an english muffin is a muffin. an english muffin is closer to a cupcake than toast. do i look like indiana jones to you? because only indiana jones could slide an english muffin from beneath the mountain of wet ham, eggs, and sauce that covers it in order to keep it unscathed as to allow the spreading of jelly on it. am i expected to scrape off these toppings and soak my muffin in my water glass so i can freshly spread jelly on it? then what do i do with my water? i’m not gonna drink that yolky water. and i’m not going to eat a soggy english muffin—much less when i was expecting a crisp sourdough slice of toast!

perhaps i’m not making myself clear enough. all breakfast entrees are PROMISED to come with a choice of side AND TOAST. can you imagine if your loved one PROMISED to take you to a movie AND DINNER, but when the movie is finished they refuse to take you to dinner even though they PROMISED, arguing that you already ate popcorn at the theater, so there is no point to going to dinner anymore?

make it make...

I came across this lovely diner on a wonderful Sunday morning in which I was feeling dehydrated from the prior night's shenanigans. Exactly the type of place I was looking for given the fact that I was makeupless in gym clothes. It is a diner--nothing fancy.

The service was great from the beginning, including the easy parking inside the little shopping plaza. It was nice that they have a few televisions around the dining area playing football.

I decided on some plain black coffee, water, and "make your own" omelette. Can't say much about the drinks, plain and simple. For the omelette I chose jalapenos, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, avocado and cheese. It felt like the ingredients were not well mixed around the omelette. One part was extremely spicy and full of jalapenos and the other was full of avocado, etc. The homestyle potatoes were okay, i think it need more salt, pepper and a little more cooking. All in all, it was okay to eat and I was content. Next time, if I come again, I will try one of their regular items on the menu, rather than make my own omelette again.

Service was fantastic and very friendly. No...
