This was, without question, the worst dining experience my wife and I have had in Los Angeles. We had heard great things but learned that those great things applied to a previous iteration of this restaurant. It’s now just an absolute affront to Mexican cuisine in a city where that should never be the case. Everything about it feels like it’s catering to the exact wrong audience. The cocktail menu needs a complete refresh and a re-write. There is no craft in these cocktails (for example, the “ginger beer” in the mule is actually Canada Dry). Pre-meal chips? Oddly red and green and very much reminiscent of a bag you could buy at Ralph’s. And the entrees are just boring. There’s nothing inventive. There’s no love or care in the food. It’s Tex-Mex, and the kind of Tex-Mex you could find at any Mexican restaurant in any medium-sized Midwestern city. The restaurant was 85% empty on a Thursday night, but there was a mariachi band playing for some reason which given the high ceiling and empty restaurant made quiet conversation impossible. Often I’ll leave a restaurant being underwhelmed but thinking that a few tweaks could fix things. That’s not the case here. This is a lost cause in need of a...

Read moreThis restaurant/bar has been here for months but this was my first time visiting. I live in north Atwater and drive/shop/etc on this stretch of Glendale several times a week, and I've basically just been waiting for a chance to swing by. I only drank and didn't have dinner but it was clear from the menu that it is a legit restaurant. It has "mezcalaeria" in the name and I was impressed by the selection which mirrored mezcsals I've picked up at desierto alto (mezcal heavy liquor store in yucca valley) and drank in non la locations like Marfa in Texas. The service was better than average. I would return to try the food.
One kind suggestion is to make up some kind of a card that lists the mezcals available behind the bar instead of handing a menu listing cocktails. You wouldn't do that at a whiskey specialty bar and mezcal should be treated the same way.
Certainly a welcome addition to Atwater Village and if you are reading this review to the end you should give...
