Southern Girl Desserts — Restaurant in Los Angeles

BIRTHDAY RUINED!!! My sweet sweet boyfriend took me here for my birthday to get some cupcakes. Because I'm a Southern girl I so was looking forward to tasting them and they had interesting flavors like sweet potato with cream cheese frosting. We bought a few and took them home to celebrate later. Unfortunately, the smell and look of these cupcakes did not foretell the awful awful awful taste of the cake which was severely dry and hard (ie stale) and the frosting which was too loose and not very sweet. We were told these were cream cheese frosting and I don't know where they get their cream cheese but it was more of a whipped cream which I do not like. Did their sign say they won a cupcake competition on television? Overall a very disappointing experience given that it was my birthday and I felt really terrible because my boyfriend could tell I didn't like them and I wanted to so bad because of all of the effort. How annoying. I'm wondering are these really from the south and how do they stay in business? Um, not the southern US and that's for sure ... unfortunately I was so angry I neglected to even take any pictures (the decorations were actually pretty) I will definitely NOT be going back to capture photos. The shop actually smells really good and the prices are a bit steep but would be worth it if the cake were good. Had to update my review for this bakery. The food is always great! But today I placed my usual order through postmates and I recieved 2 wrong items. I contacted the bakery to tell them what happened and they admitted to putting the wrong items in. They offered to deliver the correct items later in the evening. I agreed to wait until they did since I was already home. 2 hours later I recieved a call that the items they were supposed to be delivering to me were not available anymore and they couldn't do anything for me so they hung up. They aren't open tomorrow and I usually order so I can keep something in my house for their off day. So instead I'm attempting to get a credit from postmates since they dont just refund the card and the discount I used to get free delivery is not going to be valid anymore. Hoping this doesnt happen again and my experience gets better from here on.

Another update : I have stopped coming to Southern girl. I have continuously gotten the wrong order or my bakery items are stale. Not sure what's been going on recently but I'm sad to see their bakery items get worse with every visit. The staff are nice but seem to lack any type of professionalism. I love the caramel cake, it's the only thing I like here.

On this one particular day the caramel cake was covered with icing. I didn't recognize it. I brought it anyway because it's my favorite cake. The caramel was runny and not like usually. The cashier assured me that it tasted the same. I purchased it and got home and it didn't taste the same.

I called and let them know that I wasn't pleased with the cake. The person told me to bring back and they would exchange it for another item. I only like the caramel cake and they only make it on Tuesdays.

I returned the uneaten portion. The cashier who sold it to me told me no refund , just exchange. I told her I only like the caramel cake and it's only made on Tuesday. I'm not waiting a week to get my cake or my refund. After going back in forth with her, she finally returned my money.
