Very Disappointing! No idea how this place has the rating it does. Came here on a whim with high hopes after reading several stellar reviews in Eater LA, Time Out, etc. Did the Omakase for $140, and a sake pairing for $70.
The Pros: the fish was very fresh (zero fishiness whatsoever), ambiance was great, rice was warm and seasoned well & the chefs knew what they were doing behind the sushi bar. immaculately clean prep space. The server was friendly and timing of the food was served was spaced out well.
The Cons: The omakase was a 20 bite tasting, and by my third bite I knew I had made a mistake in coming here. the food had no flavor whatsoever and was bland bland bland! Omakase is intended to be a tasting experience of individual nigiri bites bursting with unique flavor profiles created by chef. This was the polar opposite. The fish variety was very standard. it was so poorly seasoned that i was desperate for some soy & wasabi (chef didn’t put enough on for my liking). It eventually got to the point that i wanted to just getup and leave and forgo the remaining bites, however i did not.
I would give this place a 6.5-7/10 rating. There were a few delicious bites but overall it was seriously lacking. I won’t be back. Left dropping $270 solo (after tip and tax) feeling frustrated, hungry & deeply disappointed. If it had been a $80 Omakase or i had ordered off the menu perhaps i’d be giving a diff review, but for what I paid i expect more.
Next time i’ll stick with Sushi Fumi or Jinpachi, my two favorite sushi...
Read moreMy husband booked dinner reservations here on a weekday night. We have an 8 month old baby and couldn’t find a babysitter so last minute so we decided to bring him along, as he usually just sleeps in his Doona at restaurants. Unfortunately, as soon as we arrived we were discriminated against for bringing the baby along. The host seemed bothered about the baby and the stroller and gave us attitude and snarky remarks. She also scolded us for not informing them we were bringing our baby. The waitress wasn’t much better either. As she greeted us she asked if I wanted sparkling lemonade instead of the 2 oz of sparking wine they give as starter. When I looked at her confused she said that’s since we had the baby with us, she assumed I was breast feeding. This is a total disrespect as what I choose to feed my baby is none of her concern. News flash, this isn’t the 1900’s where moms only had breastfeeding as an option. Needless to say the night was a disaster for us. What my husband tried making into a nice family outing turned into baby shaming night from employees at a restaurant. I left the restaurant in tears as it was my first time feeling my baby was discriminated against. Needless to say we will never be returning here. And if you plan on taking your kid here I would look elsewhere. We as parents and our children deserve to be treated with respect anywhere we decide to...

I started to sit @ the first corner a few seats away from the next patron and was advised that it was reserved? WTF? When do you take reservations @ a shishi bar for a happy hour anyways. Whatever, there's my rant.
Sushi was OK, I believe I was given some kind of sparkling something as a palate cleanser, tasted like a spadkling wine, that shot 2+ weeks of sobriety. Lmao
Anyway, might be good to clearly disclose before serving it. Besides the grim outlook from the gate, oh and the price of the of the 1/2 Note being 5 more than advertised. I still tipped 18% and split.
All in all maybe I'm not their typical clientele, but I probably wouldn't want to be. Everyone is different as the other reviews paint a sweeter picture; try it out for yourself and make your own review.
Cheers and...
