The Great Greek — Restaurant in Los Angeles

My husband and I had a wonderful visit for dinner at The Great Greek Restaurant in Sherman Oaks on June 18, 2023. The hostess, Oriana and our waiter, Peter, and other staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The restaurant was fun and festive with live Greek music performed by very talented musicians, Gerasimo and Dobren. We started off with a Tarama, a favorite Greek caviar dip with grilled pita bread which was simply outstanding. They state that “Our centuries-old recipe is among the world's best” and I absolutely agree as I have ordered it in many Greek restaurants across the United States. We then enjoyed a crunchy and flavorful Peasant Chopped Salad with chopped romaine lettuce, lots of wonderful feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, capers, bell peppers, red onions, red and green peppers and a Greek vinaigrette. My husband ordered the delicious Moussaka, with baked eggplant, ground beef, Greek spices and bechamel sauce. Wanting to sample many dishes off of the huge menu, I ordered the Combination Plate which featured House specialties on a large platter- pastitsio pasta, moussaka, stuffed grape leaves, spinach cheese pie "spanakopita", lamb of the day, oven-roasted potato, rice pilaf, and the vegetable of the day. It was incredible and I had lots to take home with us and so did my husband. We saw many other dishes we wanted to try next time. We enjoyed reading the history of the restaurant and its artwork which included fascinating political posters and more. Dinner experience last night May 13.

There’s nothing better than feeling right at home the moment you walk in a restaurant, especially when it’s your first time! My server was extremely knowledgeable about the food and made some great recommendations!

I stopped in since I was craving some Greek/Mediterranean food and stopped at the first place that popped up on Google maps and stopped here since it was on my way home. I didn’t read any reviews or info on the place so I was honestly expecting to make an order in a small place and take it home. I ended up dining in and even having a drink!

Customer service along with an amazing customer experience is something I thought was lost after 2020, but this place is definitely a gem amongst a bunch below average experiences at other venues in the hospitality and restaurant industry.

Instead of me going home with a 1 item order, I dined in and ordered an appetizer, main dish, and a drink! This was also after 9pm end of day when a lot of places begin to wind down and service typically goes down a bit due to staff being tired, but not my experience here!

Top notch service and understanding the importance of customer service is key and I wish there was more of this!

But the reason I'm changing from one star to five, it's because our experience was due to employees lack of knowledge but not the restaurant itself as the food and entertainment team was great ! Dionisi the GM, reached out and apologized ,mentioning this is not their tip policy actually and will need to talk with our waiter.

Great food, great ambiance but horrible experience due to lack of service and written gratuity after processing the payment, not even warning us and we were also only 4people. That is insulting because we tipped employees but our server assumed we are not going to tip him. Maybe because he knew what a horrible service he offered?! We were going to tip 20% but he decided to include %18 and when asked for a manager, a guy named Peter who looked far from being a manager and had no idea what he is talking about and made it even worst !
