HomeState is a Californian fast casual restaurant that is expanding to more locations throughout Los Angeles and California. I actually live very close to their original LA location but if I am close to one of their other spots, I love to stop by, check out the space, and enjoy some delicious breakfast and regular tacos.
My pet's vet is a short walk from the Ventura Blvd location so I stopped by recently. The first thing I wanted to mention is that this HomeState location has one of the nicest outdoor patios I have ever personally been to. The communal dining picnic tables and aesthetics helps create a warm, welcoming place to enjoy a meal.
The staff at every single location I've been to are always very friendly and attentive. This location was no different. Everyone I met was kind and friendly. The decor is energetic and distinct.
But the main star of the HomeState show is the food. They have aTexMex menu with lots of items but I can never seem to stray from the taco menu, and usually breakfast tacos no matter the time of day. They have their own hand-made flour tortillas that are incredible and then they fill them with generous, tasty combinations. The gold star goes to the always excellent brisket taco. But all three I had were excellent. One thing I really like is how fluffy and fresh their eggs are. There are also some house made salsas to go with the food, both are excellent.
It looked like there was a small parking lot connected to the location. I walked over from the vet. But this area of Ventura Blvd is not hard to find...
Read moreMy wife and I had heard about HomeState from being mentioned on KABC TV which gave it a glowing review. We had seen it before while dining at Mistral next-door. It did not look inviting from the outside due to the large outdoor patio filled with park bench tables combined with small uncomfortable metal tables and chairs. Mistral is one of the best restaurants in the Valley. It's interesting that one of the worst Restaurants in Los Angeles is HomeState locared next door. We came to HomeState for dinner around 6pm. Parking is very limited but we found a space. You wait in line to order your food and drinks at the front counter. The menu is quite limited. They prompt you for a tip while you order but offer little table service. We looked for a table inside and all tables were filthy with food scraps and sticky sauces. You are expected to clean up after yourself and put your trays, plates, and utensils in a corner area. I got a bad attitude from the employee who took our order since I did not leave the prompted tip. All Tacos are soft and small with little flavor. The Quesadillas were also small pieces with questionable flavors. The Salsa helped but is kept in dirty looking soft plastic squeeze bottles that are returned to the front without cleaning or wiping. The noise level is uncomfortable, especially in the covered outdoor patio area. I can't believe that many patrons rate this establishment with high ratings. Prices are exorbitant. One moderate sized Cookie costs $5. Dinner was around $70 and they do not accept Cash. As a level 9 Google reviewer with over 123 million views this place was more than disappointing. This is the worst Restaurant that I've ever reviewed and is not...
Read moreIf you are looking for Americanize Mexican food then, this place you might enjoy. The best thing on the Menu to me is the Loaded queso dip. Salsa is good too, but the Chicken Tacos, and pulled beef sandwich on Texas style bread was a miss for me.
Today, I decided to try Homestate tacos for the second time. I ordered the Sandwich thinking, "Hey let me give this place another try" and yet again I was disappointed I spent my money there. My sandwich was soggy, bread was not toasted AT ALL, the Avocado was overbearing and not in a good way. I was upset for the simple fact, I could not go back since I work at an elementary school and my lunch break was basically over. My food was tremendously cold. I guess I can say that the cabbage I pulled of the sandwich was the best part. I dipped it in my salsa, and threw everything else in the trash.
Would I try this place for the third time? Never. I rather go to Chipotle and that's not even authentic Mexican food. But, if my favorite Mexican food spot was not too far, I would def have order my 3 hard shell tacos, with my rice and beans on the side.
I rate this place a 2 out 5. Only because the loaded Queso dip is actually good...
