Never in my life did I think I’d be giving Augustine a 1-star review. This used to be one of my favorite spots. I recently came with my family at happy hour time (5p). The place was empty. Before parking I ran in to ask if I could sit outside with my kids - I specifically said “babies”. I figured the answer would be “no” since they are a wine bar. But because they also serve food, I took my chances. They said sure, we could sit outside.
We paid for parking. Sat down. Then, the rude, hipster waiter came out and was like “um actually no, you can’t stay because one of your children is too old and it’s a liability issue”. But this is exactly why I came in to ask I said. I actually asked for them to reimburse my parking - they laughed and argued with me while my infant was starving and screaming. This just the type of anti-family, out of touch attitude that makes a once cool spot turn into a pathetic dinosaur.
Augustine is a relic of the valley pre- the many, many better options like Buvette, Homestate, etc etc. obviously, post-reopen, they’ve completely lost touch with the neighborhood (hence why they are dated and empty during...

The place can be packed (all seats taken) on any given weeknight and certainly on weekends, but the bartender suggested we take a reserved seat until they showed up. In the amount of time, a regular table opened up and we appreciated not having to stand and try to drink/eat appetizers.
The fig and toast was excellent and mouth-watering. Not a cheap place as two glasses and one appetizer came to $55 before tax and tip. The booths along the side are cozy and just the right size to be able to hear your date in a nice, romantic setting.
They take reservations for groups of 5 or more, otherwise it's a gamble to get a seat in a...
Read moreTo be honest, the food has gone downhill so badly since that chef left during the pandemic. Today we got a ricotta dish with a cream sauce that was so overwhelmingly lemony that I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth and it was so rich that I couldn’t finish it. My husband pork cassoulet on an overly salty bed of beans with a weird aftertaste. Such a shame. We each had two glasses of wine. We had a taster that was SO off but the lady defended it to the end saying it was supposed to be a dark syrupy yellow. Uhm, ok. I think we know wine enough to know that ain’t so. Anyway, we left $230 dollars poorer and is sad to say that our once favorite place in the valley has seen us for dinner for...
