Upon arrival we were told it would be an extra 10 dollars per day for parking, no where was that mentioned in our reservation confirmation. The check in clerk said if we had called for reservation, it would have only been one charge of 10. I told him I had called repeatedly and no answer or voice mail available. He asked what time I called. I said which day, because I called repeatedly at different times for two days. He then informed us a $250.00 deposit was required, again not mentioned in our reservation confirmation. We paid in advance for two nights upon check in, plus 20 for parking and 250.00 for deposit. I asked when deposit when be refunded and he said they would refund immediately after we left and it was ‘up to our bank as to how long it would take to receive” I called BS on him for that but anyway, we were there and couldn’t change plans. Upon our checkout, I went down and told him to come inspect our room, we were checking out and he said he didn’t need to do that and was submitting 250 deposit refund ‘as we spoke’ Of course, 2 days later now and no refund. I called my bank and was told a credit submitted by courtyard to our account would of course be posted immediately, there is no wait time, as I knew this but wanted to hear from bank directly. So deposit is now being contested and we’re out the 250 in the meantime. The room had a king size room for two, two very small bath towels, two hand towels, no bath rug for the floor, broken screen in shower bath window, the TV didn’t work properly, we repeatedly informed them of this, still didn’t work, microwave was old as the hills and didn’t work properly, no coffee maker, no adjustment to their ‘continental breakfast’ offered they said because of Covid 19, so why not then offer vouchers for coffee or order in coffee carafes to make up for what you offer and we pay for! The cleaning staff was actually hard working and pleasant. Their management obviously doesn’t fix things so unfortunately they probably have to hear all the complaints. The place was noisy all night, some guests were arguing loudly out in the courtyard from 5:am to 6:30 am and no staff that was present asked them to keep it down or leave or whatever. The parking lot was cramped and your lucky if you don’t get your car hit or scrape another’s car as you try to navigate in and out of there. The rooms are very old and need renovation. The armoire doors wouldn’t close properly because it was broken. The security gate into the property would not lock when closed, and the door banged all night. I would not recommend staying here, there are plenty of other places nearby to stay which I’d wish I had chosen to do....

Read moreI have really enjoyed my stay here. It's an older building -- built in 1958 -- and hasn't been significantly remodeled since. I like the nostalgic feel of the place, as I was born and raised close by around the time the hotel was new. ||The room I stayed in was spacious, very clean and had a newly remodeled bathroom. Furniture is aged but still completely serviceable, and the mattress was excellent. Linens and pillows are nice. The room has a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. I was able to fix myself lunches and snacks from the nearby Trader Joe's. ||Management is running a month-long experiment here, offering free coffee and tea in the morning from 7-10 AM, along with mini pastries, yogurt and fruit. I think it's a great idea. People often need to grab something early in the morning before setting out into LA traffic, and this really helps. ||I really like the location of the hotel. It's easy for me to get into LA itself, or to travel in the San Fernando Valley. I also like the immediate neighborhood. There's a nice cafe down the street (Le Pain Quotidien) with excellent coffee drinks, baked goods and meals. And a great range of other eateries across the street, plus Ralph's Market, which is very well equipped for ready-to-eat snacks and meals.||Management was kind and friendly. The plants in the courtyard are beautifully tended, and there are birds in the morning. I found it a peaceful place to wake up and do yoga.||My one caution is that the sound of traffic on Ventura is pretty much ever-present up until about 1 AM. I can sleep through it, but if you know this will disturb you, take note.||Altogether, this hotel was good value for me while making a short...
