The Greyhound is another in a long list of overly expensive bars that now populate York and Figueroa. This one does seem to have a fairly decent food menu and beer selection, as well as a few wines and cocktails, compared to most. I also like the approach they've taken to the sports playing over the bar (allowing patrons to tune in via an app) which allows me to keep an eye on the game without it being disruptive. It's a fairly nice place to meet (if a little bland). Unfortunately this is all marred by a few factors.
When I walked into the Greyhound I was assailed with an incredible chemical odor. I was totally baffled as to what this could be, presuming that they had just mopped the floors, or aggressively cleaned the bathroom. However, the smell continued to persist even after a reasonable amount of time. Luckily, the person I was meeting there showed up and immediately remarked "Wow, smells like they share a vent with the nail salon next door". So yeah, the Greyhound smells like a nail salon.
This means that all of the $7-$17 per item food and drink you order is going to be tinged with the smell of nail polish. The food descriptions were enticing, and we did buy an (overcarbonated) beer each, but any hunger I had was quickly put off by the disgusting smell. This begs the question: why build a "gastropub" next to such a pungent neighbor? It doesn't really matter how 'seriously' you take the bar food you serve if my money is basically partially wasted going in.
So, maybe the food is good. But I didn't stick around to find out, and I don't see myself...
Read moreCame here for my first time, and was disappointed.
For starters, there's no severs. They have you walk up to these two registers, and they give you a number. They walk it out to you.i don't mind this set up IF they have a table with everything one might need. But they don't.
So back to the fries, they seemed over cooked and not fresh.
And then we ordered 6 wings. It was my first time here, and it seemed like their wings are kind of their signature food. On their physical menu, a whole page is dedicated to their wings. And they had wet wipes next to the ketchup.
It was taking too long for them to being out our wings. (It wasn't busy at all, even though there was a dodger game on) We had to remind them that we're still waiting for our wings.
We finally get them. And right away the wings were tiny, and they seemed old and dry. The wings at 7-11 are 10x better. And that's not hyperbole.
We had do send them back. The guy brought out some new ones, but they weren't any better. They tried to hide the bad food with putting a lot more sauce on top of the wings. We took one bite and just to see, and sure enough, they were just as lousy as the first batch.
If you come here, I suggest only drink beer and watch sports. Unless you like super lousy food.
Too bad. I thought I had discovered a cool place to watch sports and get...
Read moreSo the Greyhound Bar and Grill in Highland Park is awesome it's a great place to hang out, drink, eat and waych sports! All great things but don't order their coffee to me it sucked very weak and I just didn't like it. I only gave it 4 stars because of their food. I mean it's good, but I find it to be a bit pricey for what's on their menu. It's your average, standard bar food with a little extra. That being said they have some good pluses, for example their happy hour is pretty bomb it starts at 3:30 I want to say it ends at 7 p.m. Also, they have a blue hour that's either in conjunction with or separate from their standard happy hour, the blue hour happens whenever there's a Dodgers game from the very beginning till the very end of said game, so that's kind of cool. But you should check the website just to make sure. This place is like a legend in Highland Park I mean everyone goes there. Also they are opening up a new location, not a lot of people know about this... but they're going to open up a Greyhound Bar and Grill in Glendale supposedly sometime early spring of 2019. Hope that was...
