It was my first time coming over to the Karaoke Wednesdays at Blind Barber . 💈 This place is a speakeasy bar behind a Real Barber shop that is open in morning and afternoon hours . It was so pretty . The place welcomes you with a fish tank so beautiful . There was many empty tables, seats , and booth chairs by the bar . This place was amazing. I had so much fun. It was my first time going my friends live in Highland Park and I used to venture in Highland Park when I was younger, but hadn’t been there for a very long time the bartender there was only one at the moment it was last Tuesday for karaoke he was great. He handled things with care. He gave great service always smiled, and I got a whiskey sour and I was like the tastiest thing ever. It was really nice really sweet. It was sour and you could taste the whiskey. The restrooms were super clean. I always love a clean restroom. It means a lot to me and then the hose for the night for the karaoke was a dream. I forget her second name but I know it’s she starts with a K or KC I think it is. I don’t know if they had food, but I didn’t try any food, but the drinks were good. The ambience was good. The people were good and the place is beautiful. You could take so many...
Read moreSlimy secret charges on every drink!
The bar sneaks 18% gratuity plus extra service fees onto every bill. They won't tell you about these extra fees until after your card is swiped, and you have to look closely at the bill to even notice it. Then they have the gall to ask for additional tip on the receipt. It's such a slimy move you will feel taken advantage of.
It's not even about the money, which is roughly how much I'd tip anyway; it's about feeling swindled in a situation where I had no agency.
Also, just a side note: There are no physical menus, just QR codes. When I asked for a printed menu because I didn't have my phone with me, the bartender was weirdly dismissive and was unwilling to provide any alternate solutions. When I asked him what his favorite drink on the menu is, he said he didn't know.
All in all, between the sneaky charges and the lame QR code menus, it was a pretty dehumanizing experience. Other than that, the ambiance of the...
Read moreTHEY LET MEN ASSAULT WOMEN IN THIS BAR WITH ZERO REPERCUSSIONS. My friend was assaulted inside the bar, security was useless and appallingly unprofessional. She's literally bleeding from the face and security wanted to let the man back in. They also don't card people who waltz in while they're busy protecting assaulters. Never coming back here and you shouldn't either if you value you and your friends' safety.
EDIT: In response to the owner’s reply— are you serious? He left voluntarily, you guys didn’t kick him out or have him “promptly removed from the premises.” The security guards said word for word that “everyone is in the wrong” so they’ll let everyone back inside, including him. Security said they have “no authority to do anything” other than have us all suck it up and go back inside OR they’ll call the cops. I’m disgusted at the lack of...
