Horrible customer service, the main lady kicked me out of the store because I was holding my puppy… Number one, I was standing there for about five minutes for her to even turn around and acknowledge me… While all her other waitresses had seen me there and with my puppy and did not say anything at all. If this is a rule of their establishment, all the other waitresses should have said something instead of letting me waste my time waiting for someone to greet me and assist me. Finally, when the main host was done doing whatever she was done doing (packing up food or whatever), she turned to me and said “you can’t be in here with her! Sorry!” … she did not even say hey how can I help you? or sorry for the wait? Or Sorry the wait. I would love to assist you, but could you please place your puppy in the car and I can help you with whatever you need in the mean time. Nothing. Just kicked me out and didn’t have any follow up. All I said was I just wanted to pick up a cake and I will be out of here. I was not trying to eat a cake there. They are not the cheapest cakes and also not the greatest but I was at El Camaguey buying meat so I figured I might as well pick up the cake from there instead of making another stop. I was not gonna sit down and eat. I was never going to put down my puppy, I just wanted to grab a small cake and leave. So rude and unprofessional. The cakes are not that great either. Save your money for a business that has better quality in food and customer service. There’s also no parking here and the place itself looks like it’s someone’s backyard. My dog looked cleaner than the...
Read moreTwo years later and STILL a hit! Between today and my last review on this place, I have found 100 excuses to visit Venice Bakery & Restaurant, but for one reason or another it hasn't happened. Today, as I was guiding my San Diego high school friend around LA, I made sure she had a great first full meal in the city, so I brought her here. She loved it! And I fell in love all over again.
This hole in the wall provides the best chilaquiles in all the City of LA, as far as I know. I definitely want to expand my horizon and try the enchiladas next time though. The salsa is spicy, but not unbearable. The beans are seasoned to perfection. And the eggs are a great neutralizer to the flavors. It's a great combination, everything. They also provide complimentary bolillo (bread) with the orders. TIP: Check in on Yelp for a 10% discount between 1pm-4pm.
The service was stellar, 5-star worthy alone on the way we were treated as customers! I don't think I ever got his name but you know who you are, amazing! He accommodated all our requests, was helpful, friendly, and efficient, kind, warm, and welcoming. They even said "Buen Provecho!" after delivering our orders. That's the Spanish equivalent to "Bon Appétit". I usually only hear this when I'm in Mexico, so to hear it today made me feel like home.
Make sure to make a visit sometime! This place is for everyone: a dad and boys breakfast, a girls brunch, and friend catchup. The food is amazing, the service makes you feel like you're among family, you'll definitely leave satisfied- that's...
Read moreOutstanding friendly and helpful service is the number one thing at this little gem. The two women who served us were friendly and had glow of real happiness on them, which is almost spooky for Los Angeles, but all the more remarkable because of it. The food was very good +- I had the chilaquiles, My friend had the heuvos rancheros, and they serve up a beautiful warm bolillo, which made me wish I could come back and sample their bakery in a more systematic fashion. the chilaquiles were very good but my bar is very high, unfairly so, I reckon. I think the HR were good too. I very much liked their unsweetened cafe olla, which I think I ruined by putting in half and half in a fit of distraction. Well it wasn't ruined but it would have been better without it. And I love what they did to make the sidewalk seating a friendly grotto like porch -- a pleasant oasis of character in this pretty bleak commercial neighborhood. I'd return again if I were for some reason in the...
