El Camino Dining Room — Restaurant in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque

We saw this intriguing place while running errands balloon week, and decided to come back and try it. Good move. The decor is well maintained original 1950 Southwestern roadhouse. "The Mother Road" had already been realigned off 4th street a decade prior, so the name seems to be a nostalgia play, 75 years old. This is a friendly place to experience genuine New Mexico fare. It is a generational family business that makes you feel like a regular on the first visit. The food was very good. The selection was broad enough to give options to the anti-mexican-food person in your group. The salsa was as good as it looked when it arrived with fresh chips. I should have taken a photo for this. Portions were generous. They must have gotten a deal on beef, because my "6 oz" steak was probably twice that. Allyson's Indian taco was a good representative of the dish. Tony said his chicken fried steak was "maybe the best I've had." Brewed ice tea arrived in a 28 ounce tumbler. The Red gets mixed reviews, I see. To each their own. It's good, gently hot, not punishment. I didn't try the green. The Dining Room is normally a lunch operation. Hours posted were 10 am to 2 pm. Rude employee. I believe it was a manager. I was there to pick up a door dash order. I showed this woman my phone so she could see the name and order, which is a customary practice with delivering food. Instead of being professional and letting me know that they aren’t doing door dash orders the rude woman said, “you can show it to me all you want, I’m not fulfilling door dash orders, after speaking to door dash it is the responsibility of the merchant/restaurant to call door dash to cancel all orders” I apologize I was attempting to pick up an order for YOUR customer. This woman basically told told me to tell the customer that she refuses to serve them. I am just shocked. I have lived in Albuquerque for 20 years and worked in MANY restaurants and bars and I have never been treated this rudely by someone who seems to be in charge. Maybe this lady needs a vacation. I will never visit your restaurant due to this unbelievably unprofessional woman. Never been before we were looking for new places and my wife googled this one. Though we would give it a try. Big mistake! My wife and I cant eat alot due to medical reasons. So we wanted to share the 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 bacon, my wife got ham, so we were told by the waitress that we couldnt share but would have to do the 1 pancake, 1 egg, and bacon or whatever meat. The price was 7.95 a piece compared to 10.95 for the other one. Then the waitress tells my wife, "I'll just give your husband your egg" We never told her my wife didnt want the egg? When the food came the pancake was uncooked thick and doughy:( i got the two eggs giving half of one to my wife. And I got one small piece of bacon. They made and extra 8 dollars by not letting us split, even though we could eat it all. I dont mind paying thats not the problem but the food was awful!
