This place is highly overrated. While I will say that the atmosphere is what sells it, the service and food are subpar and highly invalidate any justification for their price point. Looking at the menu ahead of time, we determined there were options for dietary restrictions. We get there and are seated. Almost 15 minutes before we are addressed by our waiter just to get water and place small plate orders. Left unattended for almost 30 minutes with no refill or main order taken. Once the waiter finally came back, upon placing our order, we were informed of them being out of the items we had checked beforehand. Due to dietary restrictions, there were no other alternatives. We immediately asked for the check to go somewhere else before our time commitment after dinner as we were already running behind due to the excessive inattentive nature of our waiter. Luckily the place we went to after was able to serve us in time so that we were able to make it out in time.
Food: I had heard good things about the food, but let's get down to that disappointment. While one of small plates was decent in flavor, the size was underwhelming for the price. Four shrimp... and small plate comparable to other places that sell this dish except more expensive and half (if not less) in portion size. While it did greatly lack in coconut flavor, the curry was decent. The other small plate was plated to look good but did not taste good. The breading and filler ingredients overpowered what should have been the main star, the crab meat. For me, it was just well plated breading and undercooked filler ingredient. We left without even finishing the dishes and I was disappointed having taken my friend there. I repeatedly had to apologize for making a bad decision to go there as I had heard good reviews and trusted that they would deliver. We were both disappointed with the first impression left from our experience there.
The location is the only reason I could see for the highly inflated reviews. People want to be part of the hype and status that comes with the area, but make no mistake, you're not fooling anyone from a geographical location known for great food. This was simply not great food and the service was just not delivering.
Overall, Bin 77 Bistro & Sidebar was a huge disappointment, especially after having waited to try it for so long. Customers deserve better. It is a bit too late to apologize and express concern after the fact of a bad experience. That's just trying to save face for future customers and income when really this should be addressed prior through proper operational management and kitchen quality assurance in order to help avoid bad experiences.
Good news though, they have other good options around and the...
Read moreWe came in around 2pm on 6/23 for my friends birthday(party of 6) my friends were seated about 2-3 minutes before I walked in because I was parking so I didn’t get the female server’s name. She brought us all waters and proceeded to take our drink order. There was only one other table seated with two men who were already eating, and one young lady at the bar. It was still early in the afternoon so it was not busy whatsoever. After about 15-18 minutes we noticed we hadn’t started to recieve any drinks yet. We look up to the bar and see the female server pouring the young lady at the bar a glass of wine, and then she proceeds to POUR HERSELF A GLASS OF WINE as well, and leans against the counter and starts to drink her wine while talking to the young lady! One of the people in our party gets up and goes to asks her about our drinks and the waitress says “OH I FORGOT” and then proceeds to start pulling glasses to make our drinks. We immediately make the decision to leave the establishment. I did find the manager on duty and pulled her outside to discuss the incident with her. I asked her was the waitress new and she replied “No she isn’t new” The manager did offer to get us a new server but we declined. She did not offer any type of reassurance that the situation would be addressed. There was an additional male server in the restaurant as well at the time so there were two servers total working at this time who both seemed to be working the bar as well. This is not my first time at Bin 77 and I have nothing but good things to say about my past experiences but this one left a bad taste in all of our mouths. I did not get the female servers name but she is a middle aged white woman with dark hair and she had on dangly earrings that day. The manager on duty was a young...
Read moreThis is my second time visiting Bin 77. I can say I was impressed this time. The first time not so much. So I delayed my review. And I am glad I did!!! With two visits I can say nice place to visit. However if you have never been in the area parking looks and feel terrible. Second time around I was more comfortable and I parked in the right garage and had no problem finding my car. The first time not so much. Took me an hour to locate my car. Siri let me down. I actually swore I would never go back. Second thoughts, the band was good. Now on to the good part, Visit number two! The do over is worth raving about. the food, the ambience, the drinks were impeccable I can only speak for what I had. I had two lemon drops and a seared drum fish dressed with Carrot, risotto, root vegetables, Carrot gremalata, and crab fat butter. Excellent and I mean WoW. I believe at that moment in time this restaurant managed to shut down the pickiest eater and food critic in the world!! This dish was everything. Cost depends on your pockets. I didn’t have my sweet treat. I was actually satisfied and left a clean plate. They do have a reputation for excellent desserts. When the name of this restaurant crossed my path I was taking a bite of its tres leche. It was good! So I say all of this to say if you are in Baton Rouge and looking for an adult hangout spot. Bin 77 is it. When it comes to the menu have an open mind. You can not miss at the bar. And ask for Jill as...
