Came here for father days 6/16/2024 with my mom and sister for a Joyous occasion the place was empty with one to two other customers we thought were in luck. Our waiter was friendly we place our orders Duck + and andouille gumbo, shimp poboy sweet potato cassroll,2 soft shell crab picatta one for mom and sister. Gumbo comes out fifth teen minutes later gumbo seem a bit old with Hard as a rock left over rice did not complain. We waited 60 minutes for our food to come out we where literally minutes away from leaving we set a timer. Lol our server was like it was a change in shift i am sorry about that we were like hun we where minutes away from leaving he apologized he said they were struggling in back because he was friendly we said okay we were hungry and just wanted something to eat my sweet potato cassroll was awful it look like some one slap it down from a jar took one bite and was like no, did not resemble what it look like online. I wasn't going to say anything until my mother took a bite and spit out her food on a dish the soft shell crab was mushy and fishy like if it were frozen and old and my sister was the same at that point I wanted to leave we have been here an hour and a half we politely ask for a manger and explained he stated well take that off and everything will be on the house for you two he said we want to make things right was like no we just want to leave but the manager insisted so we were like maybe there still hope well get you some dessert ,something my mother was hungry and the manger say let me get you the food menu waited another 20 minutes crab cakes for the both of them they were okay. Server comes back he was like he's new here he's not the best but he's learning we thought okay I mean who knows what to say at that point so when we get the check we were charged for everything but the soft shell crabs and the sweet potato instead of it being on the house like manger claim at this point I am more than ready to leave but did not complain the waiter is like you guys have some dessert on the house I was like no way before the check and the piece of cake look like a small sliver we left it there and left. All I have to say the waiter was nice the service was Awful, food was not enjoyable to say we were the third customer...
Read moreOur waitress was Hannah. She was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the menu. They made me a drink that wasn't on the menu. I love hibiscus flavoring and tequila, the bartender was able to mix up something delish. My husband got the old fashion, and it was almost sweet. Very different take on old fashion, but it was so good. We began with an appetizer, we chose the crawfish eggplant. It was rich and savory. The eggplant was lightly fried in a bed of crawfish cream sauce and they topped the eggplant with many crawfish. Our only thing with the appetizer was we would have gathered the rich crawfish cream sauce over the top, and not on the bottom. We then ordered our entrée. My husband ordered the sirloin of lamb, instead of the polenta we asked for garlic mashed potatoes. The lemon beurre blanc sauce was citrus and flavorful. The lamb was a little to red in the middle, however neither of us ate all of our entrée so we were able to put it in the oven for seconds and it not be rubbery. I ordered the crab cake maison, oh goodness it was so savory. I didn't care for the chimchurri sauce without the remoulade paired with it. The crab cakes were cooked with a tad bit of crust. I also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes, they also had some sautéed red, green and yellow peppers. I also had all sauces on the side so I could decide what I wanted. Lastly, we ordered the chocolate brownie, it came with ice cream and caramel/chocolate drizzle. Which was big enough for us to share. Everything was great. We made reservations. We were addressed by our name when we walked in the door. The royal blue chairs and booths were beautiful. The atmosphere was classy and endearing. We enjoyed the instrumentals playing over the speakers. Hannah boxed up the food we had left over. It definitely was a nice evening...
Read moreNice experience at Rouj! Our waiter, A**y, was great. Restaurant was clean throughout. There's instrumental up-to-date music playing in the background. Prices aren't too bad for what you get. We went for lunch and also caught the all day on Fridays happy hour but that does not include the entire bar. So we tried an appetizer ("social"), entree, and dessert. Starting with the Eggplant + Crawfish.....good dish that needed salt desperately. There's none on the table and we chose not to ask for any. It just tasted good anyway. If there's a next time I would definitely ask for salt though. Next were the Sweet Tea Chicken and Creole Seafood Roll sandwiches. The chicken breast is huge and cooked perfectly. You can sense the sweet tea brine. Our only gripe was the bread. The sandwich needs a softer bun that you can sink your teeth into and not a hard french bread type of bread. Every sandwich mentions brioche except this one and obviously the po-boy or roll. Speaking of the roll.....oh boy! Imagine maybe etouffe poured into a bread bowl. Similar but into a top sliced hoagie french bread roll (lol!). Soooooo good!!!! It gets messy but I didn't care! You have to try it. Both sandwiches came with shoestring fries. I particularly don't like that style but would eat Rouj's all day. Perfectly crispy and seasoned well. The fries were good plain or with ketchup. Now, finally, the dessert.....sugar cane spice cake. Wasn't worth the $10 today. The drizzle was fine but the cake was dense, not too moist, maybe overworked and/or overbaked. The flavor wasn't bad, so it is unfortunate. I recommend...
