I’ve never felt so strongly to leave a review for any restaurant, but people deserve to know they are NOT getting what they pay for at Desi Vegas’s. To start, don’t make a reservation online! We booked a month in advance for a party of 7 at the Covington location to have dinner on 12/11/2024, but a couple of hours before our scheduled dinner, the Metairie location called us to confirm our reservation. The Metairie service member did not offer any assistance besides telling us to call the Covington location to get it sorted out. After calling the Covington location, all they had to offer was a sorry and to book their available high top table at the time. We literally had a confirmation email saying we booked at the Covington location. The hostess actually admitted that when they double book reservations, the system sends your reservation to book at a one of their other locations without letting you know. Because that makes total sense (not). Our server was sub-par at best. It was 35 minutes before we got food menus, and he did not let us order appetizers first. We had to order the appetizers with our main entrees. We asked him twice to order appetizers first but he said he puts them in at the same time because the menus are so big and take up too much room on the table. Other small things happened like he didn’t get a confirmation from one of our party members to order a second drink before he just brought another one out anyway. He filled up one member’s wine glass even after he asked and the member said they didn’t want any more. He would walk up to our table just to look at us and scan our table before walking away without saying anything. But the worst of all is that the food took ages to come out! We probably didn’t order until 6:45 pm, and by the time our entrees came out, it was after 8 pm. Our appetizers came out in a somewhat reasonable time, but our table was cleared after appetizers for at least 30-45 minutes before our steaks came out. We had to ask our server when our food would be ready and he came back with “everything is on course.” We asked how much time specifically and he thought for a second and guessed “6 to 8 minutes.” I’m assuming he forgot to put in our order. When our food finally came out, one of our steaks was literally cold and inedible. He never even asked if we wanted desserts or gave us a dessert menu. Funny enough, we saw two managers walking around to check on tables, but they never came over to our table. The food was decent, but for the price and awful service with it, Desi Vega’s is NOT WORTH IT. You’d be much better off going to someplace like Ruth’s Chris for exceptional service and food for a...
Read moreI recently went here for Dinner with my husband on his birthday. We had never been here before, but had heard good things. We ordered the Seared Pork Belly appetizer, Filet Mignon's as our main dish, and the potatoes au gratin, roasted vegetables, and brussel sprout sides to share. For dessert he got the Creme Brulee and I got the Flaming S'more.
Overall, it was an interesting experience, the service was impeccable from start to finish, the food was ok, and the atmosphere was one of hushed efficiency. I'm not really one for High End restaurants, but what I do like is flavor, and while the food was ok, and was cooked well, flavor was missing. The appetizer lost all nuance of flavor because whatever the pork belly was marinaded in or cooked in, completely took over the dish. While it was good, it's a dish with multiple components and I'd like to taste them all. The steak just tasted like the butter it was swimming in, the potatoes just tasted like the cheese that was slathered on top, even the roasted veggies were just ok. The only outstanding dish of the night was the side of brussel sprouts; they were roasted beautifully and lightly glazed in a soy sauce based vinaigrette that accentuated the brussel sprouts, but didn't drown out their natural flavor. The meal started with a complimentary meatball and garlic bread, which was tasty and very tender.
We both ordered drinks, him an old fashioned, me a mojito, and I also tried the chocolate martini for dessert, I found them all to be far too strong. I know others may appreciate a heavy pour, but I do not.
The dessert was mixed, while my husband's Creme Brulee was light and sweet, my Flaming S'more was doused in a flaming chocolate sauce which, while it looked impressive, only succeeded in melting my ice-cream and making my dessert taste like straight alcohol, which I'd already had more than enough of tasting for the evening. What I did manage to eat of the ice cream had no discernable flavor, but the blondie was amazing, and I really wish it hadn't been ruined by alcoholic fudge sauce.
I'm sure if you like drinking, and you like food that is expensive simply because it's cooked well and the service is good, then this is a fun place for you. However, I don't think it's worth what you pay for the food you get. While the restaurant is nice, and the service is incredible, one goes to a restaurant to eat, and if I'm paying that much for food it should taste amazing, have depth of flavor, and have my tongue lamenting when the meal is over, and...
Read more@tableformaddie on instagram!! I tell you what, i did not know how to rate our experience because a few different things happened in a few different categories.. first we made our reservation for 8:30 and we werent sat until 8:45. Upon seating we started noticing a few guest did not follow the dress code- someone literally had basketball shorts on, but anyways. We waited FOREVER FOR EVERY SINGLE THING.. the place didnt seem that busy and when i mean wait, i mean 30 minutes plus.. we got there at 8:15 and did not keavew until 11:15 or later. Crazy if you ask me.. i guess i would recommend ordering your food right when you sit down lol. But however, the food realky waas great!! Steak egg rolls were 10/10 paired amazingly with the pickled bell peppers!! The crabmeat augratin was absolutely delicious- so freash, sweet creamy and i love when crab meat taste sweet and not fishy!!! The complimentary meatballs they give you is what made me make my decision on choosing the chicken parm for my entree! My boyfriend got the ribeye- he noticed it was cooked more medium rare than medium but didnt complaim- i found it couldve been a little more seasoned.. dessert was definitely a 0/10 tho.. the flaming smore. While it puts on a good show the alcohol content was so overpowering we could barely eat the dessert so we were disappointed with that because everyone loves something sweet...
