I saw a sign on I-10 for Parrans, and I was on my way to Metarie anyway, sooooo...all of a sudden I was on a quest for Parrans, after my errand was done. Having forgotten my phone, I hoped it was on a main street, because I had no way of looking it up. I was going down Veterans toward I-10 and saw it across the street, in a strip mall. I zipped a U-ee, and pulled in the last spot. Comin in the door, it looks like the original decor from the 70's..clean, and plenty of people. Customers, employees..cool. I hate going into an empty place at 1 or 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday. I didn't have my glasses either, so I squinted at the menu on the wall and decided to try a Roast beef po boy and a Parran Club. I like to get a couple of things when trying a new place, split for lunch and dinner. I saw an older lady directing traffic and having a idle employee do some cleaning up and restocking, figured she might be the owner or relative. She didn't mess around. I ordered to go. When I got home I read some Yelp stuff that it was family owned. Aha! Took some pics, and dug into the roast beef. THE FOOD: The bread is delicious. Not too hard not too soft. Read on their website it's from John Gendusa Bakery. Don't know who that is, but it's awesome. The beef itself tastes made in house, cut chunky, not sliced. Get some good, chewy bites in there. I got it dressed. They put the beef gravy on it. Not that thin, liquid..but good thick gravy. Like a dinner gravy. Love it. The one complaint for ME is not enough lettuce and tomato. I like a bright contrast with the beef when I bite in. Anyway, that's me, maybe not you! Parrans Club...again, bread I think is maybe bakery too. Doesn't taste store bought. It looks small for 10 bucks, but there's a lot of ham and turkey on it. I enlarged a photo of one quarter of it, you can see the layers of meat. Good tasting cheese, bacon good. I took a menu with me and jeez o man, it's going to take YEARS and many trips back to try all the items. But I have confidence. I can do it. I WILL do it. For youz guyz.
Looks clean, family place. Parking...
Read moreI visited New Orleans for business on December 10th, 2017and a local friend recommended Perrain’s Seafood as the best ever. I took time after a very busy day to visit Perrain’s Seafood and found it was moderate busy and I was seated without delay. I ordered my main course instantly and while waiting I was having my coke. Time flew by and I noticed several customers finished their meal and left and new ones came in but there was no update from the waitress on my meal. I went to her and asked for an update as it was getting late and she said it will be ready soon. I went back to my table and kept waiting, another 10-15 minutes and I went to her again but there was no response or update. After pretty much over 35 minutes, I lost my patience and found the waitress and said that please cancel the order and bring me the check for the coke. It was shocking to see that instead of apologizing or making effort to fix the situation, she turned around and brutally handed over me the check for the coke …. Wow that was something! I went to the see the manager and explained him that it was me who suffered and waited over 30 minutes and now as most restaurants are closed, I have to order a pizza from somewhere and I am the one who is treated like that here instead of apologizing or calming me down. The manager was humble and apologized several times but there was no solution offered to retain the customer not even having the coke on the house. I told them clearly that I will never ever come back here and will never recommend any friend just because of the attitude, your food may be good (which I never tasted) but I cannot tolerate the behavior and how you respect...
Read moreBeing from Baton Rouge originally, I always thought people were confusing a place in Metarie with another "Parrain's" we have over on Perkins Road in BR. But this is not that, they're entirely different. "How much better could it be?" I asked myself. Well, now "Metry Parrain's" has entered our family's vernacular.
This place, like so many of the greats, is so unassuming as to seem unlikely to impress. Boy was I wrong; this po-boy shop is solid, really a can't-miss if you're anywhere near it. I'd even visit the mall (which isn't my thing) just to get an excuse to drop in here.
My aunt has been coming in town from Plaquemine (the city, not the parish!) and we wind up trying lots of places here and there. This one really impressed us, and I knew with the first bite why they've been around since '75. She's been back there with my parent's without me since, and if we all agree it's good, you can bet it's good.
I have to say, the Italian Sausage Po-boy was really, really good. I picked it out for my girl to-go and she gave me a bite--tell you what, if I didn't love her so I would have created a diversion in the house and ran off with it.
One last thing to add: the people are sooo nice. We weren't sure where we wanted to sit, or how to order, and the first time at a new place, getting your bearings and all can be a little embarrasing, but they made us feel so at home and comfortable that it's become a go-to for all of us. I'm looking forward to trying everything else on the menu--and then starting...
