I recently went to the one at O'Neal and was taken back on how good the food was, but Sunday the 2nd of June I brought my wife there and thew first thing that happened was I was told they didn't have spaghetti with meat sauce which I feel is a Italian staple and when I question then young lady server her response was they didn't have it and it was the owners choice so I ordered the lasagna. so after she left the table I was complaining to my wife and she saw the young lady a good fifteen feet away turn and make a face. the next thing we knew the food came out in record time (about 4 minutes). then I had to ask if they could bring some Parmesan cheese and then a young man came out and began to grate the cheese and and then told me he had heard what I said to the server and if I didn't like it I could leave. This is when I ask him to explain to me why my plate was so hot i could not hardly touch it but my food was not hot at all. His response was he was the manager and he could ask me to leave. I said never mind and he left, I then tried to eat my food but as I cut into the more the center it was cold we then raised our hand and another sever came over and I asked them to please take it back a reheat it , it came out a few minutes later but it was not as hot as it should have been to serve it was only luke warm. The staff there was terrible and the service horrific, the food wasn't bad it was just cold. They comped the meal at the end which made me even more upset I did not need the meal comped i just needed it to be correct. My extended family has been in the restaurant business for years (Don's Seafood , and Dukes) and so yes I do know how it should be done. I do not recommend Portobello's to anyone but I can tell you for a good and satisfying Italian restaurant...
Read moreNot as good as it used to be. The visit before my last, my friend had to ask about the cotton candy that others was getting complimentary. Food was eh (not bad but nothing to go home and brag about).
My last visit, after waiting over 15 minutes for a pickup order because the car in front of me wasn't pulled up far enough and they didn't see us sitting there, I finally called and they brought the food to the passenger side (where no one was sitting) instead of the drivers side (I guess is not a bad thing if you think about it, I'm just used to it being handed to me). Then there was no bread with their infamous dipping sauce (why? Because it was to go? but I paid the same price if I would have ate in). Most restaurants still give you the complimentary chips or bread even if you order to go.
Their entrée not giving me the omg wow it used to. The appetizer, bread and dessert was...
Read moreOur waitresses were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Nice quiet atmosphere for our brunch experience (1130am). We had the biscuits and gravy. Bacon and cheesey grits were added. Also, we had chicken and waffles. Everything was pretty much good except: actual biscuits were not fluffy but very dense and hard to cut with a knife even (was expecting open face too) although easy to chew and the waffles could have been sweeter for that salty/sweet combo especially since the syrup has cayenne pepper in it (it was good tho!). I wish there was more of that strawberry puree and not just a smear for the waffles. The fried chicken had good flavor. The bacon was cooked perfectly with a nice crunch. The grits are fork grits not spoon grits. There's rosemary in the gravy making it a unique flavor. My fresh fan-cut strawberry atop a dollop of whipped cream was a nice...
