1/2/2021 - Back to try again with family... and a much better experience. Apparently, the pork rind offerings are gone, as there were no appetizers unless you ordered them. Honesty, I wish they would just go back to the original soft garlic bread and au jus. In any event, they win back some stars for great service, cold beer, and... maybe the second best burger I can remember. Everyone seemed happy but they aren't always truthful. So from my POV... their steaks were no where close to ordered temps... that I saw. But... my burger was the shizzle. So I'll up my rating as I am a little more comfortable bringing family here... but realize... we came on the recommendation of others... I'm not back yet.
Definitely already on the down swing. Some menu changes including switching from bread offerings to pork rinds??? I'm not kidding. The service was friendly but I watched as our table was stacked with our appetizer, salads, and main dishes all at once. Then I watched three other tables go through the same thing. The queso hardened while we tried to finish the salads then ended our meal with cold brisket, pork and ribs. The manager was nice about it, but we left the gift card she offered behind. Not a Happy Valentine's.
Previously, Fantastic place... are we in Nashville or Gatlinburg? This place takes you on a BBQ trip to heaven. We arrived with our party of five on a Friday evening and had about a 15 minute wait. There was a band playing in one room, another separate diningroom and plenty of outdoor seating that gives the feeling of BBQ Disneyland! There are buses, tractors and old farm nostalgia in every corner. The kids opted for appetizers and burgers... while we had the Big Salty, which you can rename to buckets of meat. It serves four, so we knew were taking a lot of food home. There was brisket, ribs, sausage, pork belly, pulled pork and four sides. Did I mention the garlic breadsticks with au jus that was complimentary? Great beer selection and specialty drinks, too. While the burger needs work and it was awfully noisy... they definitely deliver great southern BBQ. Highly...
Read moreWent to Salty Joe's to hear a friend do a musical show. My husband had called the day before to make reservations yet when we got there they couldn't find them. After waiting about 10-15 minutes they "found" them written down somewhere else. They had been shuffling thru a notebook and some other papers. They finally seated us at a table that they had just moved to the music area. It was a cold night and we were far away from the heaters and the fire pit. It was busy as there was also a birthday party going on. The waitress finally came and took our order. Food finally came and we didn't even have bar-b-que sauce or salt/pepper on our table. I borrowed some from the table next to us until I finally flagged down a staff member to bring us some. They could have kept it because it was disgusting. It was runny and tasted terrible. The ribs tasted very good but I would have loved to have good sauce for them. The fries were good, the Mac and cheese was creamy and taste good but the noodles were hard. The corn pudding wasn't good to me. The brisket and pulled pork taste very good but again needed some good bar-b-que sauce to go with it. The brisket was rather dry. I don't know if I would try them again, and if I do I guess I would bring my own sauce, or order a burger or something else. The waitress never even refilled my husband's soda. Not sure why they get all the rave reviews. Maybe those ppl haven't had good barbecue. Central bar-b-que in Memphis is amazing, and Sauced in Eureka Springs Arkansas is also amazing. Maybe this place should take...
Read moreWhen my hetero life mate and myself came in for a late lunch, we were seated right away. This was mostly due to there only being 4 other people in the restaurant. Those others were seated out on the patio. We were seated in near the bar. It took a few long minutes for our server to come and get our drink orders. I will say the draft beers were well poured, ice cold and delicious. We ordered an appetizer of fried pickles, and inquired about the smoke platter substituting more ribs for the pulled pork. We were told it would be less costly to order thw half rack of ribs and add brisket for an $8 up charge.
The pickles arrived and I was very surprised of the amount. I don't think a large jar of pickles chips even has that many. The entrees arrived and instead of ribs and brisket for mine I received a smoke platter. The server had to be located to inform of the mistake. When it was fixed I received the typical 6 bones for a half rack of ribs and 2...yes 2 slices of brisket. This ended up costing an added $8. That is $4 per slice for the driest brisket I have ever seen. The ribs were barely warm. We were not informed of the two bottles off sauce and what they were. We had to learn of that from the server at the next table over. The music was gip hop and pop. No blues, hell I would have settled for country over that was on. All in all I don't recommend it. Maybe if you are in your 20s and looking for a club atmosphere to eat some of the driest and coldest bbq in...
