Despite seeing lots of five stars reviews, the taste of the pizza I ordered was okay, but whatever cheese used on my "Crescent Hill" wasn't melted - I found that unusual for a pizza, and not to my liking. The crust and taste seems a little different from more traditional pizza, and that's fine, as it makes for a different pizza experience. But I just didn't like the experience or taste of unmelted cheese on my pizza. Frankly, I don't know if the unmelted cheese is normal on the "Crescent Hill". And I regret I forgot to take a picture before I ate it. I just know when I was finished I didn't feel any passion or interest in returning. I truly hope your experience and the pizza you select will be delicious and encourage you to visit again because I always want to see businesses do well. That's why I am giving them four and not three stars. But as for the taste of that pizza, I have no interest in eating it again. They had brewed tea unsweetened but no sweet brewed tea. My server said the Middletown store serves sweetened brewed tea so she was a little confused why the St Matthews store didn't offer sweetened brewed tea. I ordered a Coke and it was tasty for a coke with the right mix of coke syrup and carbonated water. Perhaps I'll try the Middletown store with another pizza being certain to ask for pizza with cheese that will melt when placed in the oven. Wishing you a wonderful experience and a...
Read moreNormally I love Coal’s. It’s the only pizza our 6-year-old will eat. We ordered last night and went to pick up at designated time. We’ve been making a conscious effort to try and support every local business we can right now. We gave almost a 40% tip over the phone before pick up. When I arrived, I called and said “hi I’m here to pick up my curbside order”. The guy on the phone was surly and said “in the future don’t call us ..you are tying up our phone line”. Seriously? No one was outside and I couldn’t park right in front as there were too many cars. When they handed me the box I was really grossed out. There were oily fingerprints all over the top of the box and dough stuck to the top of the box. Despite showing up 5 minutes early for pick up, the pizza was cold (we had to microwave it and we only live 3 minutes away) AND they got our order wrong. We ordered half cheese and have mushroom onion and they covered the whole thing in mushroom onion. Not the greatest with a 6year old who likes cheese. Maybe they are overwhelmed with covid situation but instead of treating us like customers, we felt like a burden. We will go back because we’ve always liked coals but I do not recommend going there and getting dinner during this pandemic. The service and food...
Read moreGood golly, this is delicious pizza! It is rare to find a place that satisfies all of my family, but this restaurant does. The best pizza I’ve ever had was in Florence (Firenze), Italy twenty years ago, and this pizza I had last night was just as good! I will be back!
The restaurant itself is super cute, but seating is TIGHT. That’s why I have it a 4/5 on atmosphere. It’s uncomfortable to have to weave around other people enjoying their pizza.
Finally, we had a very nice waitress who did a great job. However, the guys bringing our pizza weren’t super friendly and when I asked for more napkins since we had to use all of ours on a spilled drink, he brought two napkins for five people. I had to chase down someone to get more napkins, and no one ever helped us with cleaning up the mess. All in all, it wasn’t terrible service, but something to think about.
All in all, it’s a great restaurant, and we will...
