My mister and I went here last night for his birthday and let me tell you, what a delight! The owners are the funniest and sweetest people, they came out and talked to us for a while. They definitely contributed to the good vibes of the place.
The bar has a movie theme. VHS tapes decorate the border of the room in a way that made me think "dang, why didn't I think of that?" The bathrooms (which were hella clean) have vintage movie posters in them, the tables have movie-themed ticket holders, and there's a stage decorated like a movie screen, that played old films and hosts comedy shows. The soundtrack they were playing was awesome too, it was all the classics from my high school days like Fiona Apple into a somehow smooth transition into WuTang. It was perfect. Oh and there's a room that is filled with movies for rent!
Corona safety: When you walk in the door the host offers hand sanitizer straight away and explains the way the bar works. Masks have to be worn any time you are away from the table. Then they sat us, which was nice because there was no awkward moment of having to find an empty chair. The tables are spread out which was perfect, it really made us feel like we were having a private night. After looking over the very extensive drink menu we wrote our order on a slip of paper and put it a holder on the table. A friendly server comes by, takes the paper, and faster than lightning brings back the drinks. When we were finished there was another card, on one side it says something about "I'm just going smoking, I'll be right back," and the other side says something about "we're finished, check please."
Drinks were so affordable ($3 for a miller light bottle, $6 for a Two Hearted draft), staff was wonderful, and we will definitely be back. I can't wait to see what the future holds...
Read moreThis place is a movie geekâs dream! The atmosphere is great, and features a ton of cool art and toys to look at while youâre there.
You can grab your favorite beer or mixed drink, or try something off the movie-themed cocktail menu, many of which feature house made âshrubsâ, aka a tangy fruit or herb based syrup. I highly recommend the Gin Varney (and also the Cinna-bite and the Mystic Peach-a...and I canât wait to try the rest of the cocktails as well).
Ordering from your table is super easy, thanks to a nifty form you can fill out at your table. A necessity during a time like this when bar service is unavailable, it will continue to be a blessing in a post-pandemic world, when youâd like to order drinks but donât want to interrupt any comedy shows happening on stage at the time.
While youâre there, donât forget to stop by the video rental room! In an age of Netflix and Hulu, itâs absolutely worth checking out the curated collection of DVDâs available to rent for $2 per day, even if itâs for no reason other than to take a selfie in front of a sweet backdrop âșïž.
All in all, I highly recommend stopping by Planet of the Tapes ASAP. Itâs truly a unique venue, sure to entertain any pop...
