I can't believe we finally made it to Agave & Rye. A place I drive by several times a week and have never stopped at.

We visited on Sunday around 11:30. I'd always heard great things about Agave & Rye, so I went in wide-eyed and ready for awesome. We walked in the door and were greeted (we didn't get the name of our greeter :( ) and were seated right away.

Our server was Macy and Macy was AWESOME. She asked if it was our first visit, made us feel welcome, and then went about doing server-y stuff while we perused the menu while wifey looked at the regular menu. For my appetizer I chose the Elote and for my two Epic Tacos I decided on the Swipe Right and the Alderman.

It wasn't long before my Elote arrived. OMG, this was awesome. The presentation was great, being served with the corn cob I'm pretty sure we're expected to believe our actual appetizer was made from (but in all actuality probably wasn't...but that is not a concern), with a couple lime wedges. One bit and I was Elated by Elote! (if anyone uses that in any kind of marketing I get a percentage). Seriously. Where has this been all my life?

Not an unreasonable amount of time later (I was actually still being Elated by Elote) our main courses were delivered.

(Note: Someone should have warned me just how filling these tacos are.)

While Macy did make mention of the fact that their tacos were huge, my hungry was enough to say "just give me the tacos!"

I'd be hard pressed to decide which one I liked better, the Swipe Right or the Alderman, so I won't. The sweet spicy bacon on the Swipe Right is, literally, world-class, and the Alderman was a great pile of carne asada and awesomeness.

I love the fact that Agave & Rye has the "Just Chillin'" and "¡Hola!" card for service timing. Previously I've only seen this kind of thing at Brazilian steakhouses and I applaud the use of them here.

Speaking of the restrooms (which we weren't), the Men's room here is the swankiest I've seen in town, being slightly ornate with black sinks and plumbery...and a chandelier. There's a freakin' CHANDELIER in the Men's room!

My first visit to Agave and Rye is definitely 5-star worthy! While I'm kicking myself because it's taken me this long to get here, I know now that this is 100% definitely a place I will go back. And, again, I have to apologize for my wife accidentally spilling her tea.

Thanks to Macy and to Agave & Rye for a great...

if not for the service, my girlfriend and i would have loved regularly coming here. we just moved to the area and wanted to try a local restaurant for some tacos & margs. to say that we were disappointed is a massive understatement. since it was a friday night, we expected a wait & slower service but this wasn’t just about how long we waited. after a 20 minute wait to get seated, we sat on the patio outdoors for 25+ minutes waiting for a server to even acknowledge us. a couple that got sat 10 minutes after us got welcomed, given water, and had appetizers out while we waited without even an acknowledgement. the waitress with the yellow eyeshadow and the waitress with the crazy colored hair legit walked past my girlfriend and i, ignoring us, to go serve other couples first. right as we were about to leave, the sweet and welcoming host boy asked if we’d been helped and grabbed our waiter for us. this funky yellow eyeshadow wearing girl serving us didn’t apologize even once about the wait, and immediately told us the bar was really backed up from people inside ordering drinks and made it seem like we couldn’t order a cocktail. then 15 min later, i saw other tables getting cocktails. when i tell you i was mad!!!!!! anyways, then it took 40 min for our food to come out, which is fine but she also forgot to put in an order for my girlfriend’s hot dog so we literally had just spent 80+ minutes waiting for 3 tacos and 8 wings, which is kind of insane. when she brought our food out, all she said is that the kitchen was crazy and she “didn’t even know what was going on” like girl what? don’t you work here? how u don’t know what’s going on? i honestly feel like they need to work on communicating between hosts/servers bc it seemed like they overseat the waitstaff, the bar can’t prioritize restaurant drinks with those sitting at the bar, and the waitresses don’t know how to multitask. i understand that things happen, but this was extremely unacceptable. we didn’t even wanna ask for a manager bc if it took 20 min to get sat, 25 min to get acknowledged once sitting, and 40 min to get wings & tacos then we didn’t even know how long it would be to send a real person out to talk to us. please work on restaurant organization and communication...

Food was amazing. We had a group of 8 for dinner. We had to wait about 35 minutes on Saturday at 6pm. We ordered right away when we were seated because a few of us had a show to get to. I would recommend everything I got and tasted: strawberry bombshell drink, birria nachos, queso con chorizo, Mac N Cheese Beignets, sugar daddy of the plain jane taco. I would suggest 1 appetizer to share and 1 epic taco or if you just get tacos then get 2. I had just a couple bites of the queso and beignets, 1/3 of the nachos, and 1 taco.

Our problem was with the attitude of our server. Our appetizers all came out separately and when she brought the 2nd she said our food would be out shortly. So I asked about our 3rd app and she said "if you ordered it then it's coming". Alrighty. It did come a few minutes later. Then still more time passed and our meals weren't out and we were running out of time so we asked if she knew if it was almost ready, we have a show to go to. She says "I have no way of knowing." oookay. A few minutes later it comes out. All the food was delicious even though we had to scarf it down. At this time I realized one friend never got her alcoholic drink but after the waitress' first comment she wasn't going to ask since she ordered it so it should be coming. She also was fine not having it. Well that drink was on her check so when she mentioned to the waitress that it should be removed the waitress said "oh why didn't you say something" huh, I wonder why. 4 of us had to leave our cards with our friends to sign for our checks otherwise we would miss the show. I would still go back and hopefully never have that...

Service was top notch and staff was very friendly! The food... is another story. Went in on Tuesday when they had some specials, the alderman taco (pictured left) was good and topped with a generous heap of what I believe was cotija cheese, at a price of 3$. The big thumper on the other hand (coming in at 10$ & pictured right) left much to be desired, the only saving grace for the overly salty kangaroo meat was that there was hardly any of it on the taco. I love salty food so what I find mildly distasteful, I can guarantee, most would not be able to eat. While this could have been a one off incident or a tad too much soy sauce, the sparseness of the key protein seemed intentional, as this "epic" sized taco, was composed almost entirely of lo mein (which was tasty, if also a bit on the salty side). All of this could be chalked up to growing pains in a new restaurant or a new cook having an off day, had it not been for my wife's "righteous po boy". these shrimp tacos listed in the menu with a (3) which I incorrectly assumed meant they were 3 smaller tacos. My best guess is that the (3) indicated the number of medium sized shrimp on the actual taco. Once again, what you would expect as a garnish (crispy tobacco onions) accounted for the majority of the taco's filling. For a price of 8.75$ this was something of a disappointment. The beans were delicious and the queso was adequately queso, but with their "epic tacos" being so underwhelming I can't foresee them lasting long in Louisville's competitive market, especially with taco luchador 2 or 3 blocks away, selling better tacos for 3 and 4 dollars a piece.

I am a Louisiana girl with a traveler’s heart. I saw this restaurant and had to stop in for a bite. We did make a reservation to dine for dinner. Our server was one of the best. It was no sweat for Justin to handle a 7 top like a dream. The chef must be out of their mind to merge such extreme flavors. What a culinary honor to dine here. The location was nice, and the décor was chill. Wow the mixologist created the smooth OG Margarita. I was made aware that the bar had my favorite brand of Tequila. So, I ordered two rounds of Clase Azul Anejo such memorable Tequila $$$! What a unique appetizer that was fresh and flavorful. The Salsa Roja, Guacamole, & Queso with Tortilla Chips was a table’s favorite. My preferred side dish was the Elote- Cotija Cheese, Serrano Aioli, Tajin, Cilantro, Lime (cut from cob). We wanted the most bizarre tacos for dinner. Man did this place make my wish come true. We tried many different tacos…. This was the taco rank from top to bottom favorites. Please note all tacos were eaten with a smile, Thank You. 1. Birria Street Tacos – (3) Slow-Braised Beef with Guajillo Chilies, Oaxaca Cheese, Cilantro, Onion, Dipping Consommé Corn Tortillas dipped in House-Made Consommé and Grilled. 2. The Filthy Fajata - Carne Asada Steak, Sautéed Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, Red Peppers, Mexican Rice, Chipotle Crema, Queso, Cilantro. 3. Taco: The Bomb - Carne Asada Steak, Chopped Bourbon-Poached Shrimp, Mac N Cheese, A&R Spicy Chili & BBQ Jam, Tobacco Onions. 4. The Crown Jewel - Butter & Garlic Lobster, Shiitake Mushrooms, Mac N Cheese, Truffle Oil & Shavings, Shaved Green Onions.
