We recently stayed at the Myriad Hotel in Louisville, and while the on-site restaurant Paseo exceeded expectations, the overall hotel experience left a lot to be desired—especially considering it’s a Hilton property.
We chose this hotel for two key reasons: access to breakfast for early starts, and an outdoor pool where our teen athlete could recover from long, hot days at camp. Sadly, both fell short.
Breakfast at the Switchboard café was especially disappointing. There were no hot breakfast sandwiches available, as advertised. Instead, the offerings were limited to a few scones, chips, and some dry, single-serve oatmeal cups that may or may not be prepared for you, depending on the staff. No eggs, no protein, no fruit—nothing of real nutritional substance. For guests like us and the many student athletes staying for sports events, this felt like a major miss. There were no nearby restaurants open early enough to be helpful, so we ended up walking five blocks to a Starbucks just to get a basic breakfast sandwich. We simply didn’t have time in our packed mornings to deal with that kind of detour.
The outdoor pool was another major letdown. It was a huge factor in why we booked the Myriad, but it didn’t feel like a space for hotel guests—especially families. The pool was crowded with local adults who paid for day access. The atmosphere was clearly catered to them, not guests, and we didn’t feel comfortable. On our second day, we arrived from a long day in the heat to find a group gathered at the back entrance gate—loud, intoxicated, smoking, and shouting profanities. We ended up rerouting our entrance just to avoid them. They remain there the rest of the evening.
My 15-year-old daughter, who had just spent a full day in the heat on the track, felt so uncomfortable she didn’t want to return to the pool to cool off. I also felt bad for other families—like us—who booked this hotel specifically to give their teens a way to cool off and relax. We all paid Hilton rates, but the pool felt like a public venue with no guest priority or oversight. To make matters worse, the pool didn’t appear to be regularly cleaned. Each day we noticed a growing accumulation of floating hair and debris. There were also no towels available either day we tried to use the pool, despite them being listed as provided. By early afternoon, all had been used up by swim club members, and staff didn’t seem equipped to restock them.
The room was clean, its design was updated. There were a couple of things that were frustrating. There’s an ice bucket, but no ice machine in the hotel. Again we were there for athletic reasons so ice and water bottles on hot days were super important. We were able to ask the barista each morning to fill them up for us. Another weird thing with the design of the room is there is a door stopper in the ground Centrally in front of the clothing storage of the room, which led to many stubbed toes when reaching into grab hanging items. The refrigerator in the room looks like it had been intentionally shut off and an ice tray placed upside down. So when we went to put leftovers in the refrigerator after dinner, there was water everywhere. Also, the smoke detector light would on what we called a strobe light mode in the middle of the night and wake us up. It would just flash fast for like one to two minutes and then go back to its regular flashing. Unfortunately, this was right above the bed.
Overall, while the staff tried to be kind and helpful (and the restaurant really was lovely), the hotel experience didn’t deliver on what was promised. Between the disorganized check-in, lack of accessible breakfast, and a pool area that felt more like a public club than a Hilton guest space, we left feeling like this property just isn’t ready to handle families or event travelers looking for comfort, structure, and rest.
There’s a lot of potential here—the hotel is in a good location and the amenities could be great—but right now, it’s not the experience you expect from a...

We were in town visiting family (yes-I grew up in the ‘Ville so I was genuinely excited about a new, “funky” hotel in the Highlands.)
Unfortunately, we will definitely NOT be returning to The Myriad after a pretty disappointing stay. First, their whole Swim Club thing, while a very nice amenity for the neighborhood, makes staying in the hotel pretty miserable. The pool is PACKED with day-pass users everyday of the week, all hours of the day, with DJs and heavy drinking to boot. And as all the properties’ rooms face the pool, the noise/crowd is unavoidable (also filling the lobby, hallways and parking). Plus, the hotel regularly closes the pool for “Private Events” without advance notice! The South Beach vibe they are striving for… well, I would have gone to South Beach if I wanted that for my vaca. Why even offer a pool to your hotel guests if they can’t actually use it. Next, food service- the hotel has a full service restaurant on-site, and proudly offers poolside service to Swim Club guests… but NOT to hotel guests. There is no room service available and the breakfast offered in the lobby coffee shop is very meager. This seems like a teal miss, given that both hotel and restaurant are owned/managed by the same entity. But, again, they are more focused on their Swim Club guests than hotel guests.
Third, the rooms are very poorly appointed/looked after, especially at this price point. Sheets and towels are low quality; shower curtain was moldy; our ceiling had a bad leak; the smoke detectors “activity lights” blinked so brightly, it was as if there was a lighthouse in the room; no floor/ table lamp in the seating area; and a very under-powered A/C unit. In general, not worth the price paid. Finally, when I raised our concerns to the General Manager, I received a fairly condescending, “I understand the scene is not for everyone… our hotel is a quirky place…”. And while I was promised a partial refund, after several weeks and lots of follow-up, that has yet to materialize. See very similar comments in numerous reviews below. The Myriad just falls short in a countless number of ways when it comes to meeting hotel customer expectations.
UPDATE. FOLLOWING PROPERTY RESPONSE BELOW: Note that Guests get two whole hours of exclusive pool access in the AM (8a-10a and again in the PM (8p-10p). NOT exactly ideal pool hang / sunbathing / relaxing times, esp. as there’s none of that “wonderful” poolside service during those hrs. What a joke! Also, how delightful for all the other guests with pool facing rooms to have the pool open so early/late!
And re: the partial refund I was offered… I took nearly a dozen emails/calls from me and AMEX agents over three weeks to get that straightened out. Clearly, the GM either had no intention of actually providing the refund OR didn’t know how to process it.
In any case, I chose to...
Read moreHotel looks very nice inside and out. Very clean and staff is pleasant. Hotel is new, but nothing really in the room is set up. TV is useless as the hotel did not connect it to WI-FI, had front desk give me password for Wi-Fi but again tv wouldn’t connect. Seems to be very outdated model of Samsung TV, so it’s not accepting 5G Wi-Fi and there is no other Wi-Fi connection. When I booked hotel it stated breakfast but it’s really coffee shop in the lobby and it’s not free. I do have keurig in the room but hotel didn’t leave me any pots/sugar/creamer, so you can’t use it. Was hard to find the hotel as hotel sign is not light up at night, but I’ll blame that on Google maps which showed location of the hotel few blocks away. Front door closes at midnight so you have to use two other doors as per employee however im yet to find them. As far as bathroom, water pressure in shower is terrible, when you switch water from spout to shower head, spout keeps running water through so shower head pressure is reduced. Bed is ok but sheets and pillows are terrible, 100% polyester, seems the same for bathroom towels (no sticker to verify). I personally sweat in polyester and can’t get good night of sleep. My collage who was in different room in this hotel, had same issues. At the price I paid, especially for new hotel, I expected much higher quality of products. Yes 100% cotton please. Another thing to note is that my room was not cleaned for my entire stay of 3 days. Not an issue however again I paid for a service. One thing that this hotel has going for it is great location. Another thing to note is my room had one of the historic windows which are beautiful, however the window latch was not lockable or whatever the reason was they decided to put screws through window frame so it can’t be opened. Now this is safety issue, good luck getting through the window in event of fire outside your doors.
So in summary: Hotel has gorgeous design and great atmosphere. Rooms look great too but they aren’t comfortable. All of the bedding and linens used in my room were disappointing. Don’t plan on watching TV in room. I wasn’t even able to get my phone mirrored on the tv either. Don’t look for hotel at night or look up intersection prior to arrival just in case. Don’t expect high flow showers. Location location location. Staff is pleasant.
I know there’s always that one person who will say why didn’t you call and ask for them to address the issues etc. I expect hotels to do their job and ensure that everything works how it should before I book that room. It’s not my job to point out how things should be, mistakes like that shouldn’t be on customer to point out. Customer should be able to walk in and enjoy his stay without hiccups. With certain price level, there is an expectation in service and this hotel didn’t meet my expectations for the...
