I read the reviews and was excited to come. I was just visiting and after an appointment I stopped in right when they opened.
Food: Mediocre at best. They didn't have what I really wanted to order (the vegan bahn mi) so I got the (jun something Stew, hummus and jerk tofu sandwich (idr the exact name anymore)
Jun something Stew: As someone who lives in Japan there's nothing Japanese about it lol it tastes like overly salty minestrone soup tbh. The bowl is large but shallow too so not much soup. (I was low-key happy cause it wasn't good lol)
Hummus: there was zero flavor. Just chickpeas and tahini lol mind you in my hometown there's an Egyptian restaurant that has THE BEST hummus. (I ordered it everywhere I went because in Japan there is no hummus and when I try to make it here it also has no flavour like Ramsi's haha) THE CHICKPEAS WERE HARD š like they just took them out the can, rinsed em off and put them on the hummus lol The vegetables were old for the hummus. (But I'm all for no wasting so I'm happy they used them before they expired completely.) THE GLUTEN FREE VEGAN PITA BREAD WAS DELICIOUS!!!!!!! I think it's called chapati, that was great!
Jerk tofu sandwich: It literally tastes like mild bbq sauce drenched tofu on two pieces of chipati. Nothing jerk about it lol (I left it as a "gift" for my best friend before I left haha)
I ordered a ginger ale cause it said it was homemade, but idt the waiter heard me cause I never got it. Not mad either cause I wasn't charged and if it's anything like the other food idt I'd like it.
Final food thoughts: I feel like because they just opened they just heated up leftover food from the night before. The best part of the food was the gf vegan chapati bread and water! Lol
Service: The guy was nice and did his best that early in the morning.
Atmosphere: Absolutely stunning!! There's so many interesting artifacts and things inside and the courtyard is beautiful. (I just don't like eating outside.) Hopefully they're real and not just pictures...
Overall thoughts: It was meh, wouldn't go again besides for some fresh gf vegan chapati. And I now use the word Ramsis as an adjective to describe nasty things with my best friend. My metric is now something is either delicious or ramsi's lol For example: this restaurant is too dang expensive for its food to be Ramsi's lol (this sentence is about Ramsi's haha meta)
Total was $50.40 idr if this included tip or not
You should go and try it out for yourself tho, everyone's tastes...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe first restaurant in Louisville to do it all right. Eclectic without clutter, class without pretentiousness, flavor without compromise on portion... just five stars all around. There is genuinely nowhere else like Ramsi's in the city.
More than anything, Ramsi's exudes authenticity. While other new spots in the city have similarly vibrant atmospheres, they often feel overly curated or forced. Ramsi's, however, offers something truly uniqueāa vibe that cannot be imitated or recreated. Itās the culmination of a lifetime of experiences of the owner Ramsi, expressed through every detail, from decor to the menu.
Here is my edited review from 2022 and this rings true for all my many visits made since:
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. The owner came out and we had an amazing chat. I had a not-so-amazing experience with a server about a year ago who has since left and I hadn't come back since, however, Ramsi himself and the excellent servers who took care of us ensured I had a beautiful experience. It was just one particular server (who has since left the staff) that was the reason for my initial poor review.
I highly recommend my go-to, the Egyptian Kitchen w fried eggplant, as well as the Old World Salad, Moroccan Lamb Chops, and the goat cheese appetizer. I have never tasted lamb chops seasoned that uniquely and well in my life (and this is coming from an Arab girl who has eaten more incredibly seasoned lamb than my own body weight). The Egyptian Kitchen serving is giant and the dish itself is so filling and DELICIOUS. The Old World salad is another go-to.
Their outdoor seating is unmatched, I recommend asking to be seated outside if the weather allows. Perfect for a semi-casual date night. As far as the vibe, Ramsi's is what you make it. I have come in jeans and a sweater for lunch and felt appropriate, the same as I've come in kitten heels and a maxi for dinner date and felt just right.
This remains one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Louisville...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a great Sunday evening dining experience at Ramsi's Cafe on the World. Here are some noteworthy aspects of my visit that might be useful in planning your trip:
Providing that weather is decent, off-street parking in the surrounding area should suffice. I recommend you allow 30-60 minutes for a leisurely walk to the venue. As a bonus, one to three laps around the area can help work up an appetite.
Judging from the lack of a crowd upon arrival, reservations seemed unnecessary ā but I still recommend going through OpenTable for the peace of mind and the points.
Whether you dine indoors or outdoors on the patio, Ramsi's is packed with low-key conversation pieces that create a novel but relaxed atmosphere. The patio is optimal in my book, however.
As far as the menu goes, there is something for everybody on this menu. The drink menu had some intriguing sours and the appetizer menu had several temptations. Ultimately, however, I went with the tortellini graciella with chicken, which I understand to be a house favorite, and the staff thoughtfully prepared a stir-fry with grouper (fish), potatoes, and other mixed vegetables, which after many visits to the kitchen our thoughtful, kind, and pleasant waiter, Sol, helped arrange (as my girlfriend needed an option that was 100% free of egg, dairy, gluten, cane sugar, and oats). Just in case we wanted more of a kick, Sol even brought us some cracked black pepper and red pepper flakes, which were greatly appreciated.
We will absolutely return in the future. The jerk tortellini has been on my mind ever since Sol mentioned it as a possibility for the...
