The Fermentary Public House — Restaurant in Lowell

Kind of weird place. I guess we should have done more menu research prior. A name like "The Fermentary" made me expect a brewery. Beer. This is not a brewery (yet?) and they do not have a draft system. They only have a few bottled and canned beers. The happy hour at least had good discounts on them. The lack of draft is strange too given they have an immense bar. It was showcasing no real liquor options either nor was the cocktail menu robust. The bar is also where each individual orders any drinks, food, or app you could want - there were no waiters, only a bar person and a runner. Unsure if this is the norm as many formerly empty tables with food/drinks went uncleaned. Ordering a drink at a bar, I get, but this is pretty tedious to order everything you could possibly want delivered to your table.

We got the pretzels (not much flavor beyond the salt on them) and the loaded fries which had minimal bacon and no chives. The fries themselves were crunchy, but the beer cheese was.. not good.

Ultimately, as dirty tables collected around us, people bailed after apps or with boxes after a few bites of their entrees, we opted to cut our meal short and go elsewhere.

On the positive side, the happy hour on beer/wells and apps kept the ticket cheap enough to not be too put out.

Hope things improve or this was an off night. Would be great to have another solid sit down...

What a hidden gem! We went there with our toddler and started off with the hummus (which was the best I’ve ever had). They were able to accommodate me getting grilled chicken added to a salad, my daughter got a kids chicken nugget plate and my husband got a burger. And wow!! I typically am not a fan of burgers but I tried a bite and it was amazing. They currently serve bottled beer only, but our server mentioned they will have their own beer on tap served in the next month or 2. Will definitely...
