I'm usually very picky about which indian restaurants I choose to eat from since I'm Desi but Taj Mahal exceeded my expectations. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was calming and the manager made us feel like we were VIPs even though it was our first time visiting. He deserves 10 stars. The spice level was perfect. I choose my level of spice according to how my gut is feeling so I didn't go too crazy but don't worry next time I'll be sure to go all out. Update: During the pandemic they didn’t raise prices and still made it readily available safely by taking extra precautions. I’ve read some of these negative reviews and as a local guide I can tell their fakes left by competitors. I know it’s a recession but it’s disappointing that people would intentionally sabotage my favorite and most consistent Indian food place in Delaware. If you’re looking for value, quality, and great service give them a shot. If you don’t like It (I promise you won’t) I’m sure the manager will customize it to your liking or not even charge you( I’m assuming just based on the conversation and great energy I felt from him). I’m a foodie and have a page based out of Detroit. It’s called Dashofdetroit. Nothing I tried comes close to the authenticity of the food they provide here. If you like spice make sure to let them know your spice tolerance (I love extremely hot) and pair it with a lemon wedge. I oversalt everything so I usually add it to anything Indian. They also have some exotic dishes you can’t find in a standard Indian restaurant. It’s fluctuates so you have to ask if you’re in the mood to try something exotic. I wish I could give this place 11 stars. 5 for food, 5 for quality of service and 1 for the nice relaxing atmosphere. I’ll see...

Edit: the owner accused me (a racially Indian male!) of racism. Pathetic. What he cannot do is refute my points in the review. For that, I am downgrading the rating to 1 star (formerly it was 2). Like I say below, I really wanted to like this place but the quality of everything is atrocious.

I really wanted to like this place after reading some of the reviews. It’s a Bangladeshi restaurant (why it’s called « Taj Mahal » who knows? The Taj Mahal is in India).

My mom opened her menu to find an insect crawling inside the plastic between the pages. Great start.

We ordered the lamb Rogan Josh (turned out to be more like a ketchup lamb thing) and the lamb posada which was a chef’s « special » (and it was a sugary barely edible mess of slop also). We had two chicken items which were also below average in food quality.

The rice was completely plain. Not even a single piece of cardamom, leaf, or any hint of seasoning.

The ambiance of the restaurant was as also totally low vibes… there was some sort of Islamic chanting playing from a TV that was playing off a YouTube channel. Thankfully the chanting was broken up by ads for a Kia Sportage. Those Kia ads really livened up the atmosphere.

The artwork on the walls was of cafes in France. Great fit.

No jug of water at our table and service to refill our water was haphazard and unpredictable.

Oh and of course the restaurant looks like it belongs next to a cheap motel given its location.

I guess if you don’t know Indian food well, you might like this. But if you have a discerning palate, try Nawab’s on Kirkwood Highway or basically any other Indian restaurant.

If this is a « fine » Indian restaurant, then the Kia Sportage is a...

This is Bengali style food, and I find it refreshing. I get so tired of the same old lazy American style Indian restaurants that think spicy hot makes good food. Sorry lovingly prepared and fresh spices make good food. I like this place alot. I have not tried the lunch buffet, but have ordered from the dinner menu several times and have been pleased each time. There have been some remarkably vicious and demeaning reviews of this place, and I question the motives to be so mean. I always receive excellent service, and they understand and comply with my requests for things not even on the menu. Its my go to restaurant when im in the neighborhood. =)

I ordered a home delivery from here recently. The food was properly packed. The appetizers was good, tasty and decent quantity for the price. Garlic chicken was tasty but too much of oil and less quantity for the price👎. I could extract and throw away, 4 to 5 tablespoons of excess oil that is flooded on top of the curry😟. The chicken biriyani was also good and enough quantity for the price. All together everything was okey. Chicken biriyani, boneless: $12.99 Non-veg assorted, appetizer: $9.99 Chicken biriyani, boneless: $12.99
