This is my 2nd time grabbing food from Capriotti's. First time ever eating there was opening day. I also had food provided at work, where i didnt order myself. The second time was last night. I feel like people have to realize what it's like working in the restaurant business, especially when it's new. There's always kinks to work out and I hope the owner and their employees take the negative reviews and use them to their advantage to improve upon. My parents worked in the bar/restaurant business in a small town and it could be brutal. People can be brutal.
Opening day, obviously it was very busy and I had to wait a bit, but you can clearly see back into the kitchen and everything is fresh and made to order. (Check). I ordered the wagyu cheese steak medium, and wish I got the large after I finished it. The meat was tender, it had good flavor, no grizzle, perfectly spicy (check). I also ordered a regular cheesteak for my fiance and he only likes cheese. No toppings. I was afraid they were going to miss something since they were so busy, but it came out as ordered. (Check).
We also ordered a platter at work one day and had a variety of cold subs. Pretty impressed with that because just by the smell of it, you could tell it was fresh. I had just the plain turkey, but it was freshly sliced, like from the actual bird and not from a deli round, and it was delicious. They also had a decent amount of portions on the sandwiches (check and check)
Finally, that brings me to yesterday, my second time ordering at the restaurant itself. I went a little later, around 6 or 7, and there were only a few customers there. Someone came up to the counter quickly and took my order. He was friendly. This time I ordered the large wagyu with everything on it. While I was waiting (maybe not even 10 minutes?) I was checking out some of the reviews to pass the time, which are very mixed. Obviously, I can't speak for others, but for each time I ever ate something from this place, it was really good and flavorful. It had enough portions, which to me, helped me justify the cost. Each order I made was right as well. (Big check)
I hope that management can work on the inconsistencies, which are completely fixable from what I was reading, because I want this place to stick around. It's nice to have a sub shop that has a different flavor from the rest. I'll eventually be back...
Read moreThere's a lot of nasty people in the reviews here and you can tell that none of them have ever worked in the service industry let alone understand that to err is human. I love the staff here--they're always so kind, welcoming, and understanding!! I was just here today (July 7th) to eat with my partner and had to overhear a woman complaining to the cashier about there being no oil and vinegar on their sandwiches, which is SO funny to me because she waited until AFTER her and her daughter had already completely eaten their sandwiches to complain. Again, to err is human! I've forgotten little stuff like that at past jobs and it's an honest mistake when you're in the zone and/or busy. It's also such an easy fix if you're willing to communicate the problem. The customer could have easily went up to the counter and asked for a side of oil and vinegar and I'm sure the employees would have been apologetic. It takes such little effort to use your brain and have common courtesy and respect when talking to service workers. The cashier handled it with grace, though, even though she definitely did not have to. I feel so bad for the cashier and I hope that she knows that she is AWESOME and a very pleasant person all around. I seriously appreciate everything you all do here at this Capriotti's location. It's become my favorite sandwich shop for sure. We'll be coming back A LOT more. ;) 10/10 food...
Read moreClearly this location suffers seriously from a total lack of leadership. While the sandwiches are average (or a little less than average) and the employees nice enough, they are obviously either ill-trained or untrained. No one moves with a sense of purpose, and the place looks it. This is about the 5th or 6th time I've tried Capriottis in Allentown and it will be the last. I gave it an honest shot and nothing has improved since they opened. Frankly, when the tables are left dirty and the employees hanging out listlessly, it is not unreasonable to assume that the cleanliness of the kitchen and food prep areas are likewise unattended. Under these circumstances I don't trust the sanitation. Today, with fully a quarter of the tables dirty and the place close to empty of customers, the person whom delivered my sandwich took a half-hearted swipe with his bare hand and cleared some crumbs from the table. Yeah, I know - I could have chosen one of the clean tables but unfortunately they were all in the sun. Nobody in the place appeared active at that time and nobody came back to clean. My sense is that the employees I've interacted with are solid people and would want to do a good job, but the leadership of this location fails miserably. This is a demanding industry and requires attention. I can't imagine this place is going to survive. Somebody...
