I met with my friends there yesterday around happy hour time. When I first got there, everything was nice. We ordered an appetizer of chips and salsa, when that arrived we ordered our dishes. Everything was going great but as we were eating, our waitress started to rush us through. She stopped by our table to ask if everything was good and my friends asked for a side of guacamole. It was busy so I get the wait so when she came back my friend asked for the side of guacamole again. We understood that it was busy so my friend just reminded her. When she brought it over we continued eating but about five maybe six minutes later she drops off our check. We were confused because there was no explanation, just the bill. We still were eating. When she came back she asked about the bill and I asked her if we could get a refill and my friend asked for a container for the rest of her meal but we still wanted to try a dessert item. From that point it was just rushed like they cleared all the plates without asking if we needed containers or anything. When the waitress brought the dessert she went to update the bill and dropped it off again without asking about how everything was and if we would like anything else (normal waiter/waitress questions). It was my first time there but I’m sad to say it was my last because while the food was delicious and the prices were great, our waitress just made it uncomfortable to even be there. It almost felt like she didn’t want to be bother...
Read moreIt is with conflicting emotions that I write this review. Historically, when it comes to Mexican restaurants, I place a great deal of emphasis on the chips and salsa. These are usually a leading indicator of the rest of the food, however it is the opposite at el Limon.
Both the chips and salsa are crap, I am sorry to say. The tortilla chips are so thick that they are closer to pita chips - who would make them so thick? The salsas they give you are the wrong combination of spicy and bland - too much of both. It has gotten so bad that we order tacos and burritos from El Limon, yet we make an extra stop at Chipotle for chips and salsa because 3/4 of my family refuses to eat the chips from El Limon.
Having said the above - their tacos are worth the trip. Of any place in the Philadelphia area they do the best job of authentic and flavorful tacos. They truly are delicious.
@ the owner of el Limon - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take a 2.5 hour trip to DC and go to any District Taco location and order chips and salsa. It is so far and above what you offer - take notes and replicate it. Your business will increase 20 %. I will even pay for the tolls on the trip if it means that the chips and salsa will change at your place. Hell - if you had chips as decent as Chipotle you would be my family's favorite restuarant in the Philadelphia area. Please look into it - the chips and salsa are holding your...
Read moreThe food is usually good but the service sucks. I had a bad experience with a catering order. When I tried to place the order I was left on "hold" (the phone was put down on the counter) and forgotten. I called back and was told the person answering couldn't help me and I had to call the manager. I ordered multiple trays of chicken and beef tacos supreme. When picking up the order the staff was rude. When I asked for my order they pointed to the crate with my large order stacked in it and said "it's over there". Then they plopped an additional bag on the other end of the counter. I had to ask if that was also part if my order. It was. Not one of the 3 staff members handed me anything, or offered to help or even held the door as I struggled to carry it all out. When I opened the food to serve it, the chicken was dry and the taco shells were wet. The beef looked good but the lettuce they gave me was bad. It had brownish pieces and I just ended up not serving it at all. The tub of sour cream they provided was watery. It looked like milk (also couldn't serve). I would never order catering again and if I ever do eat at El Limon again it will be a different location because the staff was unbearably...
