Ordered 2 American subs and came to pick up. What I got was two cheese subs *literally no meat* for $25. I actually find that kind of funny and at first thought it was a joke or a mistake Edit: In response to Sandwich Man, on your website where I ordered the subs, there is not a description stating that your $12+ “Sub” is meatless, but does offer an option for EXTRA meat or bacon, but extra implies the existence of any meat at all. Please explain how someone ordering a sub anywhere in the country would pay more than 10 dollars for a giant piece of bread filled with cheese and Mayo. Ain’t nothin’ American about a super expensive sub with no meat guys.

Our sub was good, but next time we'll take it to go. The restaurant looks dirty. We sat next to window and saw old dead fly and dirt. The stools need reupholstering. Place looks like a mess. I never ate at a restaurant that looked so dirty and unkempt in a long time until now. I did not want to take photos of the dirt on the window sills. The last 2 restaurants that looked dirty like this was Sylvia's in Harlem and Florida Avenue Grill in DC and that was 15 years ago. The sandwich looked clean though & tasted good. Copious amount of meat & soft fresh roll. The potato salad was bland. No salt.

I ordered the G9 (half sub), hoping that a half sub for $10.95 would be worth it. Man, was it ever! Copious amounts of freshly sliced turkey, roast beef, bacon, and cheese with fresh lettuce and onions. The roll was about the best I have had for a hoagie. Killer sammich, I can’t remember having a better one anywhere in PA. This place is a must-try! It’s not often that a half sub leaves me stuffed, but this one did. 5 stars all the way.

Let me start by saying I am from Harrisburg and have been going to the Sandwich Man since I was in high school. I have since moved out of state and the Sandwich Man is a place I loved (past tense) to frequent for a taste of home. However, I've witnessed a lack of professionalism the last few times I have been there, but with other customers. I finally was on the receiving end and I WON"T EVER GO BACK! My husband loves these sandwiches, but I draw the line when you cheat supporting customers. First off, the management is RUDE (both locations)! There is no other way to put it. I don't know who would want these people to manage their business. Makes you wonder what the qualifications are to be a manager. I ordered 2 subs, one large, and one regular both with double meat, (since they no longer give you enough meat to enjoy the sandwich). I always order them with everything on the side for the travel out of state, and to prevent sogginess. This includes NO MAYO for dietary reasons, and because I absolutely hate mayo! I spent $30.16 for both subs (Yep you heard right!), confirmed the NO MAYO with the cashier since the sandwiches come tightly wrapped, and made my journey home. I get all the way back home and both sandwiches are FULL of Mayo. There was so much mayo the bread was soggy. This meant that the subs were ruined and couldn't be eaten. Who wants mayo that has been slopped on a sandwich for hours? As stated there are dietary restrictions as well. I called back to the shop and got the run around from a rude staff member who claimed the worker who prepared the sandwiches was new. The tone was as if it were my fault the employee needed training. I was ultimately hung up on for no reason. Frustrated, I called the next day, and the manager seemed to have no managerial skills at all. She went back in forth about what to do, which seemed to be a simple issue to resolve. Finally, her resolution was to freeze the sandwiches and bring them back with the receipt on my next visit and she would make me new sandwiches, OR I could opt to throw the sandwiches away and receive a small discount off my next order. I opted to freeze sandwiches. I thought if I produced the sandwiches to show there was no fraud involved on my part, it would be easy to just get new sandwiches on my next visit to be fair. Besides, I wasn't going to lose one dime after spending that kind of money. Moreover, she claimed my name would be placed on a board in case she wasn't there for confirmation. Fast forward to this past weekend. I traveled with frozen/rotten subs, and the management continued to play games. I tried calling before I came, and the manager produced no resolution. I was told that my name was not on any list, and that she (manager) needed to wrap the call up so she could continue to make sandwiches. RUDE! I asked could I leave my name and number for the original manager to call me back, and she responded, "I don't need your name and number" and hung up the phone. Really? This is when I knew it was all a scam. I'm done with this place! If they had any common sense they would try to keep good, invested customers! Instead, they are losing customers according to the other comments here, and word on the street. So many times, I have not only ordered for my family and I, but others out of state that enjoyed the subs as well. For me, this place loses. Although I am out $30.16, they will get no more business from me to include my family still in Harrisburg. We stick together. Bye to Sandwich man after being a loyal customer for over 20 years. Enjoy the money! Hopefully it can go toward some good ethics, quality assurance, management, and best practices trainings. SAD...

I have been going to The Sandwich Man for almost 25 years (mostly the downtown location, which closed awhile back), but sadly in recent years it is no longer a good place to go. The quality of their food has been really inconsistent as of late and portion sizes are down too, but you can bet prices have continued to rise.

I only went to this location a few times during the last several years because of the inconsistent quality, but this weekend was the last straw as the service was terrible. My family and I stopped in around 5:30 PM -- there were several people working and no other customers, although a few call-in and takeout orders came in while we were there. After waiting about 10 minutes our order was put out at the counter with no notice, so I grabbed our three plates and a pickle that was wrapped up next to them. (They've always served pickles on the side of each sandwich, so I assumed they were just bundled together.)

I soon figured out that they don't do that any more, because apparently the pickle belonged to another customer who got his still-unfinished order to go. Once one of the workers found out that I took it, he verbally accosted me in front of everyone even though I tried to explain it was an honest mistake since I thought pickles were always included. His accusation was bad enough, but he even gave me an annoyed look and eye-roll to go with it. I ignored his rudeness and said I'd be glad to pay for it, but he went back to work.

We finished our food (which was OK, not great) about 25 minutes later and, on the way out, the same employee loudly asked me if I was going to pay for the pickle I apparently "stole". After convincing myself that starting an argument or throwing a fountain drink at him probably wasn't the best thing to do in front of my wife and daughter (and a few other customers), I calmly paid the measly $1.06, said that they'd lost a long-time customer, and knew that this literally was the last dollar they'd ever get from me. All this for something that probably cost them a quarter at most.

There are many better options in the area for quality, value, and of course service (and that even includes national chains), so I'd urge anyone who reads this to go elsewhere. You...

I get two G6's every Saturday, one for my son and one for me. Same quality everytime and leftovers taste great reheated the next day (thought I should add since it's a BLT grinder, if you don't know what a grinder is Google it). Their hot pepper relish is great also. The staff is always super friendly and normally the longest part of the wait is the line to order. Even if super bz, you are typically in and out in less than 10 minutes. I'm not typically a "creature of habit" so the fact that I order the same thing from the same place weekly is the best compliment I can offer. Little pricey but you absolutely get what you pay for here. In all reality, $13 for a sub that fills you for one meal and the leftovers usually suffice as a light lunch the next day isn't that bad. All worth it imo.

Ours are always to go, so I'll leave the in dining experience to others.

For out of towners, I highly suggest getting a bag of Middleswarth chips (barbecue are the best, but all their products are incredible). They are strictly a local company with a small area of sales but just their chips alone are worth the stop. Call me crazy, but for some reason the bags of Middleswarth at Sandwich Man always seem fresher than anywhere else you...
