I want to start by saying this is our second experience at Apple Tree and our first was fantastic. Good food, friendly service, and we were excited to return.
This morning they were in the weeds. We started out on the patio where within the first ten minutes we had drinks and had placed our order. After about 25 minutes, a table opened up inside and the wind was getting to us, so we went in and took the table. At this point my coffee was empty. There were cups and napkins at the table indoors and our waitress met us as we were sitting down to clear the table. She got confused and tried to take my coffee cup and I told her that one was mine and pointed out the old ones. Our move inside may have confused our waitress or made her uncomfortable, but even before we moved, she hadn’t spoken to us since taking our order and even though she met us at the new table inside, she didn’t wash the new table or get refills.
After another ten minutes or so inside, I walked up to the counter and asked for some more coffee. This was a pleasant exchange. I was still chalking it up to a busy morning.
Thirty minutes later, when they served food to the people who arrived behind us and still had not refilled coffee or come by our table, or even made eye contact where I could get their attention to ask for more coffee, I got up and told our waitress that we were leaving so they didn’t just walk up with food sometime this afternoon and wonder where we’d gone.
I’m not angry, I know they were busy. If they had even acknowledged that we were there, we would’ve waited because the food was great last time and we were hungry and they’re local and we want to support them.
I’m hoping that they see this and realize that even if they were buried and struggling, just a quick word or a warm up on coffee would’ve been enough to keep us waiting. As is, I’m not stoked to go try again…especially if they seem busy at all. And we’re still hungry. If this were not the second time and if everything hadn’t been so good on our first trip, this review would have one star or as low as I could get it. Today was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant and maybe the first time I’ve ever waited so long and...
Read moreApple tree Cafe has been a Gem to lubbock for many years and has switched hands a few times I remember standing in long lines to get a apple dumpling .Couldn't get in the place back then it was so busy. I came in today to see if they still made the delicious cookies haven't been in years and all that was in the case was turn overs and fried pies. They did have a German Chocolate cake that looked delicious but TEN DOLLARS A SLICE ? Come on ! I would have glady paid 5.00 or 6.00 a slice but 10 is ridiculous! Trying to make 160 on a cake is crazy! apparently I'm not the only who though that as it was almost closing and just 2 slices were gone. I did get a cherry turnover I didn't want to eave with nothing. I took two bites and couldn't get through it, it left a film on my lips and inside my mouth I assume it's grease. Not appetizing at all. I threw the rest away. I had other things to do and I could NOT get rid of the film that turnover left. It continued to gross me out until I...
Read moreWhat a fantastic Cafe & bakery. My wife & I traveled to Lubbock for our niece's wedding. We always try to support & visit local eateries. I can't stop talking enough about what great food, service, & hospitality this establishment has. Our waitress was prompt & so courteous. The coffee was nice and hot and refills just kept coming our way. We ordered omlettes, pancakes, and a side of bacon. After our breakfast we enjoyed a mouth watering cinnamon role. We had also ordered two vegetable soups, a brownie, and a lemon cake slice to go. The order to go was so well packaged by our waitress. You could tell how precarious she was in packaging our order, insuring that there were no spills. We didn't eat the vegetable soup until the following day. Wow!!! The vegetable soup was outstanding!!! It was loaded with ingredients. And of course the desert was incredible. The two owner's went out of their way to welcome us to their Cafe & to Lubbock. This Cafe is a true Diamond!!!!! ...
