Doc's Cafeteria — Restaurant in Lubbock

The Good: 1. Customer service was great! Everyone was pleasant and I felt very welcomed. 2. My favorite side of the six was the green beans. 3. The price point is inexpensive.

The Bad: 1. Majority of the sides were extremely bland. 2. The Mac and cheese was overcooked and didn’t really have a cheesy taste. 3. The greens were cold—not like warm, but actually cold. 4. The fish was the most disappointing because it didn’t even look like what I have seen in other customer’s pictures. The fish was very salty and was cooked too fast, yet had a little of burnt look on the exterior. It had multiple bones even though I specifically asked for fillet.

The Ugly: 1. When I walked into the establishment and looked at the food in the cafeteria’s line, most of the food did not look appetizing. I don’t believe anything was fresh, but I wanted to support a locally owned business. 2. There were customers eating in the restaurant, but ironically they left so much food on their plate as if they didn’t quite enjoy their meal.

I’ve actually never given a poor rating on here, so let that speak for itself. I use this platform to promote small businesses, however, we walked in to Docs today with the intention of bringing a party of 12 for a birthday—we came in much earlier than the rest of our party by the way (we didn’t just show up with 12 people). We asked someone if they would let us move two tables together. When they started to help, the owner or glorified manager (I assume), started yelling from across the restaurant that we could not do that. She also saw that we had a cake and yelled that we could not bring desserts in. Embarrassed, we told them we’d just take our business somewhere else. I actually understand the concept of not bringing desserts in to some establishments, but for a buffet style kitchen, it doesn’t make sense—you’re going to pay the same amount no matter what. We easily would have spent $200 in this place. DO NOT GO HERE. I will say that the frontline staff were pleasant and willing to be helpful. I hope they find a better employer...

We had been wanting to try them for a while, especially since furrs (my husband's favorite place) is gone forever! We went and had lunch here today and we cannot say enough good things about the entire experience! Starting the moment we walked in the door we were welcomed by ladies in the front, and spoken to like we were entering their home for lunch. The choices are slightly overwhelming, but makes for you to have plenty of options! Definitely something for everyone!! The food is absolutely delicious. Every single thing on our plates was insanely good. I wish I had pictures, but our favorites were the greens, cabbage, and black eyed peas. You cannot beat the price for the amount of food we got. $34 for both of us, including drinks and dessert. And we both easily had another meal worth of food to take home.
