Saltgrass Steak House in Lubbock, Texas has become a favorite of ours. We live in Abilene, TX, which does not have a Saltgrass, so a visit to eat one of their delicious steaks is a must. The restuarant is always clean, including the restrooms. For me, if the restroom is messy, there are broken or worn locks, dryers, towel dispensers that don’t work, I suspect the kitchen is the same way. If a restuarant can’t keep the public areas clean, why would they keep a non-public area clean? We were seated in a booth and the floor beneath the table was clean and the booth seat was not cracking, but in great condition. Greeting at the door has always been quick and friendly; striving to seat one where they feel the most comfortable. Due to light sensitivity, I always ask to have shades dropped. This request was immediately accommodated by our waiter, Pearson. Pearson was a delight and one of the best waiters we have ever had. He was very attentive, always checked our table as he walked by to ensure our drinks were full, we had plenty of bread, and to see if everything was to our liking and taste. The manager Chris (Kris?) L. also made a stop by the table to see if all was well with our visit. He was very pleasant inquiring how the food was, how service had been, and just visited a few minutes in general. Turned our he knew people in Abilene we also knew - small world! We ordered the 16oz Pat’s rib eye. We were going to share the steak, and our great waiter, Pearson, had them cut it in half for us while still in the kitchen. The steak was a perfect medium and the flavor was delicious. The salad was large with some of the best soft croutons we have ever eaten. We had baked potatoes which were cooked to perfection and the extra sides were generous portions. The bread arrived to the table hot and fresh. My only wish would be for an extra butter for the bread. If you are in Lubbock, Texas, and want to eat great food somewhere that feels like home, I could not recommend Saltgrass...
Read moreLet me just say, I’m disappointed that I even have to write this review, because I had so many high hopes for such a pricey place.
My husband, son and I dined in Wednesday at 5:50pm. There was very few people there at this time, so I assumed we would be in and out pretty quickly.
We sat in the back room and our waitress, Rebekah, who was apparently training someone, came to grab our drink orders. At no point did she ever introduce herself or her trainee who was assisting. She came back with our drinks and bread. Since we weren’t ready, we had sent her away for a few minutes to continue looking over the menu.
She then came back and asked if we were ready, we gave her our order and she seemed so distracted by whatever was going on in her head. Mind you, we were her only table and it was only 3 of us.
We got one steak (medium), a chicken salad and a chicken sandwich. Again, with only 2 other small groups in the dining area, neither of which were her tables. An hour later, we finally got our COLD food after never being checked on throughout the waiting time. They brought out the food asked if we needed anything and walked off.
About 5 minutes later, she asked if “everything was delicious” and then laughed and walked off saying “I should haven’t asked that” while talking to her trainee. She didn’t even stick around long enough for us to tell her that my husbands steak was definitely cooked well done, completely cold, dry and had absolutely no seasoning or butter and the chicken on my salad was ice cold.
We were highly disappointed in the food and service of this place and we would not recommend this business or dare to go back and waist money.
Do yourself the favor and go to chili’s or Texas Roadhouse for half the price and for better food and service. Salt grass is not worth a penny...
Read moreThis was by far one of the worst experiences we had at a restaurant. We had a big party 14 people. We were crammed into tables like sardines, no arm room, no room on the table to put anything. Eventually we asked for an additional table so that we could have some more room. To add we made a reservation, so this was not like a last minute walk in. We ordered several different cocktails. We ordered pineapple Margarita's that were extremely small, we asked if we could have it the same size as a normal Margarita, they said yes we just had to pay for an extra shot...no problem...till the bill came. They charged $11 for the Margarita and an additional $12 for a premium shot. Not one person at our table asked for a premium shot. Just to add that ended up being $23 for a margarita. We also ordered the Kentucky smash for $9.50, it was small, overly sweet, and full of ice. Not worth the money we paid.
It seemed that we waited forever for our food, we waited over an hour just for our food. No apology from the kitchen, nothing from management, there was nothing. Once we received our food it was mixed reviews. We ordered the 22oz porterhouse for $33. Once received I will say the steak was amazing, however, it was definitely not close to a 22oz steak it was really small. Some others had other steaks, the precision of the cooks on the steaks were mixed. Some were perfect others were like beef jerky, some food was hot, others had cold food. At some point in time people were just ready to get out of there so the continual complaining was not worth it.
The server was really good but once again it was one person to help a 14 party and she had additional tables on top of ours.
This will never be a place that we will go back to or a place that we would recommend to anyone else. I would stay clear...
