Bodacious BAR-B-Q — Restaurant in Lufkin

Bodacious BBQ has been around a while and I have been there a few times with inconsistent experiences. For this visit I had a 3 meat plate( sliced brisket,sausage, ribs, and two sides coleslaw and potatoes salad.

The sausage was quite good, Smokey flavor, moist and good snap on the skin. The ribs where tender, flavorful and didn't need anything else. The brisket is where it went flat for me. The brisket was very dry and crumbly and the flavor was like cardboard. I did not enjoy it at all, brisket is a BBQ staple and I judge joints on how well they put out a brisket. This was very disappointing for the price of $24.00.

The coleslaw was a creamy slaw without it being drenched and good flavor. The potatoe salad was more like cold mashed potatoes with the fixings of potato salad mixed in. It wasn't bad at all and I enjoyed.

The service was decent and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxed. The dining area was clean and organized.

I stopped and ordered 2 pounds of pulled pork tonight, but got all the way home and had sliced turkey. I called to let them know a mistake was made and the man said he could give me the pulled pork if I brought the turkey back. I explained that my husband was still in town and could pick it up, but he would not come all the way home to bring turkey back. The manager said they could only exchange the meat because the turkey was for another customer. So I can only assume that they would sell this meat to someone else, after it has been in my home, I’ve obviously opened the container, with all the health issues going around right now. I have mixed feelings about the food. I ordered turkey, but the appearance, mouth-feel and taste were of ham. It was the rubbery feel of ham as opposed to the more fiber-ish feel of turkey. It was also super salty, if indeed it was turkey. Perhaps the staff just filled my order incorrectly. We ordered take-out so couldn't just ask the employees. If it was ham, it was good, but if that was turkey it wasn't great. The potato salad was kind of liquid-ish - more like a thick soup. It was spicy like jalapeño so I wonder if it was liquid-ish because of the addition of pickled jalapeno juice. All in all, it wasn't fantastic but also wasn't terrible. My husband thought the ribs...
