Checked out Crab Du Jour in Lumberton last night and it was excellent. It seems like a chain as there are a few around, but most likely franchised. I was hesitant to try them because reviews on google were very mixed, and there's nothing worse than seafood that isn't fresh. I am so glad we did.
This is one of those cajun style steamer bag seafood places. The Lumberton location is an "xpress" and primarily takeout, but there are a handful of booths for eating in. Decorated in a cute nautical theme with fishing nets, old license plates, anchors etc. A sweet older Asian couple were running the place. The place was impeccably clean, both the storefront area and what I could see of the kitchen in the back, always a good sign.
We opted to eat our food there while it was hot and fresh. We ordered 3 create your own combos, select your seafood, sauce, and spice level. We all went with garlic butter sauce. We did 1 LB of spicy snow crab legs, 1LB mild crab legs, and a mixed bag 1/2 LB lobster tail and 1/2 LB scallops. Each bag included a couple red potatoes and 2 half ears of corn.
Crabs were cooked perfectly, juicy, slid right out of the shells and the sauce was super flavorful. We liked the spicy version a bit better and would probably ask to mix garlic butter and old bay in the future. But the lobster and scallops? BOYYYYY. Let me just say I NEVER order these items out because I find them consistently disappointing. Scallops are always small, both tend to be overcooked and lacking flavor. That was not the case! There were 6 huuuuge scallops, again perfectly cooked. Even drenched in the garlic butter you could still taste that unique clean sweetness of a quality sea scallop. And this was genuinely the best lobster tail I've ever had. So so tender, none of the overcooked chewy lobster business here. Potatoes and corn were also good, definitely using fresh ears of corn not frozen. We also had a side of fries, which were they type with a very light tempura like batter. Hot and crispy, would get those again too.
We washed it down with a variety of specialty Asian teas and sodas they sell in the beverage case. Food was served with a bucket for shells , a pair of gloves each, and a full package of baby wipes 😂 Both the lady at the counter and the man cooking checked on us several times. They were very kind, there is a slight language barrier so be patient when ordering please!
Overall 10/10. Highly recommend this place, especially for enjoying a mess-free seafood boil on the patio at home in the...
Read moreThis was my first time ordering from Crab Dejour. After I got pass the language barrier and was able to place an order, I ordered an combo platter which should have included a lobster tail 1/2 lb of snow crab legs, 1/2 lb shrimp and 1/2lb of mussels. I ordered an additional 1/2 lb of snow crab legs and 1lb of crawfish. I live 25 min away. Because of the language barrier I had to go in person, wait for my order to be cooked then go back home. I arrived home opened the bag and there was no lobster tail. I had to put all my food back in the plastic bag and take it back because when I called the man said it was there.. I am almost share 3 clusters of snow crab legs doesn’t equal a lb snow crab legs but that what I received and that’s what I was told. Upon arrival, there was another customer who had to return for hush puppies that wasn’t in there bag. On the way out another customer asked if everything was in there bag. And a 4th customer was upset cause his order sat done for at least a half hour, before he even received his order. Granted it was Valentines Day but if they intend on staying in business I suggest they hire more people or pay better attention to customers orders. I wasn’t offered any apologies or anything. Not sure if I’ll be returning to this...
Read moreI was excited to see that a seafood takeout restaurant open in the area. After reading the online reviews I decided to order the crab cake basket, shrimp basket and chicken basket. First, the French fries are awesome and abundant. The chicken was tender and flavorful but not the typical "chicken strips", they were pieces of flat chicken. The "seafood" portion of the meal was less than disappointing. The "crab cake" basket consist of 2 mini slider crabcakes. The website does not mention that. The "crab cake" is very similar to Mrs. Paul's frozen crab cake. A Bobby Chez' crab cake it is not. No lump of crab of any sort in this cake. Its more of a paste filling. The shrimp were heavily coated with breading. I also had the fried pickles. They were alittle on the soggy side as they were pickle spears not chips. I would give the packaging and presentation of the food 5 stars. The food 1 star. I spent alittle under $50.00. For me, not worth it. It appears that some of these reviews are not for the Lumberton location. The Lumberton location is a type of a takeout venue. Small and no...
