I can't believe I never knew this place existed. This is the first Japanese restaurant in the Robeson county area I've been 100% satisfied with, it even has the Japanese places I've been to in Fayetteville beat.
Firstly, from the outside it is easily missed but once you get inside Ruan is CLEAN, orderly, and classic with a nice and friendly atmosphere.
Second, our server was awesome. She was attentive without being overbearing, and she was friendly and had a good time recommending the items we were asking about and telling us how and who made them and what she thought we would really like.
Lastly, I'll get down to the food. Presentation was simple and eye catching, everything was plated very appealingly. The serving sizes were healthily portioned. Everything I was served tasted perfect. The salad was fresh, no soggy or over ripe pieces. THE GINGER DRESSING. I can not describe how happy I was with this dressing. Out of any store bought or restaurant ginger dressing I have had in many states, this dressing was my favorite. My gratitude to whoever made it.
The vegetables that came with my entree were cooked perfectly. Not too firm, not soggy, not over seasoned or oily so I could still enjoy their natural flavor.
I also got chicken, shrimp, and medium rare steak. The seasoning was awesome and the meat was so tender I just kept staring at my plate thinking "Wow, why is this so good?" Extra points for knowing how to properly prepare a medium rare steak without over cooking it And being half the price of other similar restaurants.
Overall I give Ruan a 10/10 for my first visit. They'll be off the charts for me if they ever start serving Takoyaki and sesame...
Read moreThe food here is great and fresh, but never order food over the phone. I ordered my food over the phone and Mary, the manager I might add, took my order and was quick to get me off the phone. I ordered a veggie plate and an order of spring rolls and when my order was brought back to me from one of my coworkers there was a problem. I bit into what I thought was a spring roll not noticing I was eating beef until close to the last bight. I haven't eaten beef in 5 years, so you can imagine my frustration. I called the restaurant back and once again Mary the manager dismisses me and tries to rush me off the phone then refuses to refund me for the inconvenience. It was one thing to rush me off the phone, but it's another to not even try to do service recovery for something she made a mistake on and something I take very serious especially since I got sick from eating the egg roll. I know mistakes happen, but to be nonchalant after it's brought to your attention is the icing on the cake for your bad...
Read moreFirst we want to say we are not fans of Japanese food. Went for a birthday dinner.
Food was ordered and then was delivered piece by piece over a 15-20 minute period. Those gathered wanted to eat and talk together but food was starting to go cold. It felt odd with people eating while others had nothing to eat or had finished well before other's foods had arrived.
My teriyaki chicken was undercooked and it was verified by 2 others in our party. Didn't send it back because of the potential long wait for its return. The fried rice was good and the vegetables were decent.
Service was okay. Drinks were kept full.
Overall I think we will send a present and skip the meal if Ruan is chosen by others...
