Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q — Restaurant in Lumberton

Not from the area, we are staying at a hotel right behind this location.. I travel 10 months out of the year and I am tired of the same "chain" food over and over... I haven't heard of this brand before sooo I meandered my way in and was promptly greeted by 2 maybe 3 employees , in a very genuine way... not the normal monotone greeting most restaurants give you. The young lady that took our order was very friendly and helpful, explained what the dishes were and included to avoid any confusion, she made a couple suggestions, I paid and we sat down.. Gonna stop for a minute.. I had to look at my receipt, I thought she forgot to ring something up. The prices are incredibly reasonable Holy moly! We were given our drinks and as I said preciously sat down....we weren't sitting 2 minutes and a wonderful woman in a white shirt, manager perhaps?? Delivered our food and was wicked friendly. This wonderful woman checked on us again in a few minutes and refilled a drink... a few more minutes a young guy came by and checked on us and refilled another drink.. again, not in that robotic forced way so many staff are trained to do.. these folks were happy, friendly.... we were blown away!! Dude I was with commented...." we don't get service like this in Oregon"... I had to agree, a concept like this in Florida , this level of service is unheard of.. Hopefully someone up the chain sees this review and lets these folks know their hard work is not going unnoticed.... and it was greatly appreciated!!! Thank you for far exceeding my / our expectations in everyway!! I am gonna be back tomorrow for dinner, and more banana pudding!

Ok, I came back.. got the pulled pork plate with 2 sides... everything is just as good as last night and the service here is serious man! Where did you find all these friendly happy people??!! Smithfield's has a very unique tasting batter (non-spicy). I got the combo platter along with fries. The chicken platter combo comes with: 2 pieces of fried chicken, pulled pork, coleslaw, hush puppies, and potatoe salad.

The fries are shoestring fries which were pretty good. The chicken was cooked fresh to serve hot while the batter had a nice salty taste differentiating it from Popeyes or KFC. The pulled pork tasted like it was mixed with a vinegar-based bbq sauce which I didn't find pleasant. The hushpuppies were ok, my wife really liked them. Both the slaw and potato salad were overly-saturated in their respective liquid bases which I didn't like.

Service was great, I liked the way they treated me at each step from the greeting, to the delivery. I'd offered to take the tray but they insisted on delivering it directly to our table.

Smithfield's is worth a visit...

The chicken was good. Prices were good. I had the BBQ chicken this time but didn't care for that BBQ sauce, it was way too sweet. Tasted more like something you would find on a Chinese dish for a sweet and sour sauce. Small size leg portion too (They may have different sauces, I'm not sure since this was only my 2nd time there.) If you want BBQ chicken then you have to ask for it, it isn't on the menu board. The time before we just had fried chicken and that was good and the size of the chicken leg was much bigger. I am not sure what kind of coating they use on their fried chicken but it is light and tasty. It wasn't dripping in oil, it was nice and crunchy and well seasoned. If eating in, order and go sit down. They will call out the number on your receipt and bring it to your table...
