Gander's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Luna Pier

About a year ago I was visiting ganders I ordered the Perch dinner assumed since they were so close to the lake they would prepare a great fish dinner. Wrong!! I got sick from the fish. We had to wait quite awhile for our food to get to our table? By the time it was there I was very hungry. I thought the Perch tasted gritty like it was old too? I should have sent it back and ordered something else but our waitress was no where to send it back to? I was sick all night and the next day I was sick at my job and had to go home for food poisoning. I called Michigan Health department to investigate Ganders and reported them. I don't want any one else to go through what I did. I haven't been able to eat a Perch dinner since then. And I grew up with grandparents that lived in Marblehead Ohio, and they were always giving us fresh Perch that my grandfather caught on a regular basis. I am thoroughly disappointed with Ganders and they used to be a better place to eat. Now when I think of them I think of getting sick from their fish dinner. Clean your fish better and the restaurant if you want to stay in business. I hope the health department inspected you thoroughly!! I lost a day of work because of you. Your lucky I didn't sue you!! You gave me food poisoning!! I will never be able to forget it now!!...

I do not have good enough words for this review! My daughters and I came in after only getting off the exit to get gas and a quick bite from Subway although we weren’t in any rush. They couldn’t make their mind up on what subs they wanted once we got in line so I seen this place. That was the absolute BEST indecision that they could have had! We ordered pancakes, eggs, sausage with cheese omelette, hashbrowns, wings & fries. Now, for the review..

Pros: The moment you walk in, you feel like you’re at Grandma’s house up North 😍 And it is sooo very clean! The ladies greeted us immediately then were so friendly and patient & kind for our entire meal without being overbearing. The food came relatively quick. Now listen, THIS FOOD WAS SO GOOD!! The pancakes were fluffyy! The eggs were perfect! The hashbrowns 😋 were cooked golden and tasted like fresh grated potatoes 😍🤩 Their French fries were of great quality and fried perfectly! The photos don’t do this restaurant enough justice. The prices were super fair!

Cons: They don’t serve grits 💔💔 If you know me then you understand 😿

Overall, I’m excited to share this gem with my family and friends anytime we are in Luna Pier, we’ll be sure to make time to...

We pulled off the highway to get some Beef Jerky at the store next door. It happened to be lunchtime, so my son and I decided to pop in for lunch. So glad we did. My son got a French Dip and I got the Fresh Perch Sandwich. Both were fantastic. The perch was lightly breaded and perfectly fried. There was no grease at all, making me think they may have used an air fryer.. either way it was so good I left off the starter and only added some lemon.

Our service was what exactly what I remember growing up in the 70's/80's. I can't remember our server's name, but she made us feel like we were eating lunch at her house not a restaurant.

As far as atmosphere, this place is exactly what you would expect at a small town restaurant that caters to regulars. It reminds me of where we ate as a kid.

We decided to check out the lake since we were a few blocks away....looks like a family vacation near by is in order so I can try a few other items in...
