Great little restaurant located in the heart of Wyndhurst. You'll find about 50+ different types of beer served here, and about a dozen different burgers. Mostly priced at $8.88 each, the variety of burgers (including the vegetarian option) are cooked medium to medium well, served on brioche buns, and with a side of fries; you can get sweet potato fries or onion rings for $1 extra (do it) accompanied with their own sauce.
With the onion rings, we were served three of them. Thickly breaded and darn near perfect (I'd like a little more crunch and salt), there was no soggy breading on the outside, and the onion on the inside was, indeed, perfect.
The sweet potato fries are served in waffle form, and you get about a dozen of them. No complaints, standard fare and nothing fancy.
If this is your first time, chose the breakfast burger, because an egg on a burger always correct and a good test to see how they cook and deliver the egg (yolk needs to be no more than medium). Mine was a bit overcooked but still had some soft boiled quality to it. The burger was seasoned well but I wish there would've been one more layer on the actual burger, a breakfast sauce perhaps.
Small irritations: Bathroom way too close to the bar. Never received a drink I ordered, was charged for it but had it corrected with no problem. "unfiltered" music playing with families patronizing the restaurant. This was changed after a couple of songs however (not by me).
Still, overall a very good example of what a local burger place can be. And far above other examples in the Lynchburg area (here's specifically looking at...
Read moreBeer 88 is fantastic. I am a frequent diner, and I think the establishment is great. In a city with a lot of subpar dining experiences and not much of a beer selection beyond the standard stuff, this place really takes the cake for excellent food and beer variety. If you sit at the bar you will see, time and time again, long-time customers who come in and catch up with the staff as if they're family. They have a lot of regulars. I think it speaks to the business and the people who work there. Sometimes the wait time is a little long, but they have a small staff and that small staff is excellent. After the remodel, they took a while to get consistent with their menu, but I think that was just a matter of the cooks learning how to make things the same every time. By the way: I'd highly recommend the fried pickles.
Before I went I was hesitant because of the 3ish star review average. Turns out, a bunch of trolls (most of which will admit they have never been here, or live anywhere near Lynchburg) saw a news segment from A FEW YEARS AGO about ungracious activity from one server who no longer works there. It's amazing how people have nothing to do in their lives. I'm a little skeptical of the backlash of this woman-owned, minority-owned business and the continued backlash from people who are just now seeing it on Facebook, years later, and making it their personal goal to ruin this...
Read moreMe & my husband really love the food here it’s always fresh & amazing quality ….. however I am on the fence of still coming to this establishment due to poor customer service from one worker… the main guy there I don’t know his name but he is pretty rude this isn’t the first time either … the very first time my we came the place isn’t that big yes they were packed but we had a call in order and we needed to pay for it so we get to the register and my husband is standing behind me and the guy is coming around with the food mind you my husband did not even see him and he just said something along the lines of why would you stand there knowing food is coming out vs just politely say please excuse me . I mean it’s not like there’s plenty of places to stand …. The next time we came we got the guy again he doesn’t make eye contact when my husband paid for the food handing him the money he then just puts the change on on this little try and just slides it in front of him doesn’t say anything and just walks off… there’s not many customers at this time so it wasn’t like he was slammed or busy … there’s a lady there who is sooo friendly and nice I love to go when she is there but due to the rudeness of the guy I don’t know if we will...
