We went here because everywhere else was closed on New Years day. This is a chinese actual sit down restaurant and not a takeout place. It has a very large sushi menu but we didn't have sushi so that will not be reviewed. The review will have three parts, one for each dish and one for the restaurant and service itself.
The first dish was my own, which was called the Dragon and Phoenix. This is a combination of fried lobster in a semi sweet red sauce and chicken (aka the phoenix) in a spicy brown garlic sauce. They call the sauce spicy, but it's really just garlic sauce in a brown gravy, but it was still very tasty. It had a punch of garlic flavor followed by mellow savory gravy. The fried lobster was perfectly tender and the semi sweet tomato sauce was a tart and smooth followup to the sweet lobster.
Second dish was my wife's garlic chicken with a side of reduced sweet and sour sauce on the side for dipping. The sauce was extra because we ordered it special. The garlic chicken didn't actually need the sauce for dipping, but we didn't know that when we ordered it. We were trying for a honey garlic chicken like we can get in the takeout back home but while this was a close approximation, it was not the same thing. However, the garlic chicken was perfectly grilled and the garlic flavor was present, but didn't overpower the vegetables or rice when mixed together which was fantastic.
Lastly, we have the restaurant itself and the service. Our server was a new hire, who is named Ryan. Despite his inexperience at the restaurant, we never wanted for beverages, and he was very polite in trying to accommodate our requests. He was polite and professional. The restaurant itself, despite being a tad loud because we were next to the kitchen, was actually fairly comfortable. The seats were soft, the art on the walls fit the theme of the restaurant, and when Ryan didn't know an answer to the question we asked, he got the cook who could answer the question with no trouble. It was a nicely...
Read moreI work for a online food delivery company which has gained quite a bit of popularity since the start of the pandemic and more and more people are starting to use this method to get food. The company that I work for sends me a debit card to pay for the food at the restaurants I’m required to snap a picture of the receipt then upload it on the app. I have not had a single issue anywhere with this method except for Kings Island. I politely asked for a copy of the receipt before I can pay for it. The girl working was absurdly rude to me saying “ I can’t give you no copy of the receipt until I pay for it” I politely said back that I need to upload a picture for the app that’s how it gets paid for. She again was just very rude saying there’s nothing she could do. So I asked her for a copy of the guest check hand written receipt she had in her hand and it was like I asked her to do something that was a huge Nuisance an inconvenience for her so I snapped my picture uploaded it paid for it it was very simple not sure if she was just having a bad night or if me asking for a receipt was that big of a problem. I feel like as long as this pandemic has been going on I couldn’t be the first person who has ordered food from an app there She just wasn’t very friendly whatsoever sorry I was A...
Read moreI've been a long time & very pleased patron of King's Island for probably 25+ years despite not having lived in Lynchburg since the late 90's. Anytime I find myself in the 'Burg I always try to make a point to include having lunch @ KI. Thier food is delicious, their lunch buffet is big with a large selection (salad, wonton & egg drop soup, sushi, homemade/big egg rolls, many excellent entree choices, fresh fruit, cake, and other tasty made from scratch treats). If you like Asian style food then you can't go wrong with KI. Staff are friendly and attentive, service is quick, and the buffet is kept well supplied. Lunchtime, esp. on Sundays, can be quite busy at times so sometimes there's a wait, but the staff do their best to get folks in and seated as quickly as possibly. Prices are very reasonable for the exceptional quality and taste of the food, this is esp. true of the buffet. If you live in or visit Lynchburg often and have never been then I would very much recommend giving them a try. I've had the pleasue of introducing both Univ. of Lynchburg and Liberty Univ. students to KI over the years and dining there with friends on many occasions. Anyone who knows me knows that if I'm heading to Lynchburg then a meal at King's Island is virtually guaranteed to be on my...
