I have been a customer at this location for several years before Goldie's took over. Today I tried to purchase 3 donuts with a debit card. In the past I have always used a debit card for purchases. The clerk said the purchase was approx $3.50, so I attempted to pay with a debit card. Clerk refused debit card stating the store policy is a 5 dollar minimum. What??? When I disagreed with the clerk, I mentioned the fact this may not be an approved practice with Visa. She stated she knew that but the owner doesn't care. Fine!! They lost a customer! I am not going to start carrying cash to suit them!! Very poor attitude for a new business!!
Update: The owner states credit card fees have increased in the last few years. This statement is not true! I work in the banking industry and know for a fact credit card rates have NOT increased since 2011. Average rate for a swiped credit card is 2%. There are also monthly fees involved which are between $15 and $25 whether sales are made or not. Swipe fees for debit cards average $.27 per transaction. The only reason a merchant pays more than the average rate is if they are a credit risk. Then the rate is higher depending upon the bank. This owner does not have a clue as far as customer retention. Loosing customers over saving a few cents makes no sense. I give them 2 years and they will be gone! Their arrogance will be their downfall!!
The following is taken from Visa Intl rules in reference to accepting Visa debit and credit cards.
"Merchants accepting Visa or MasterCard credit or debit cards are not allowed to set a minimum amount for using the card; that is a violation of the...
Read moreI am always excited to try a donut shop. Recently moving back to Ohio New places have popped up I am excited to try. I used to go to a competitor up road years ago..which is long gone by the way .Its always nice to see a non chain small business pop up and I'm all for keeping Americans working. That being said.....just WOW. The fritters were huge. Eclairs nice large size and actually bursting with flavor. Their vanilla glaze on fry cake just sweet enough. The jelly filled donuts could use a bit more filling as it had a dollop dead center but left rest of donut bare. But a little rub around with my finger of what jelly was inside and it was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. I remember when donuts were 6.00 dozen...not that at all anymore.Expect pay alot more , but remember landlords kill with rent, utilities, online services, insurances, employee wages and matched compensations and of course tax from city , state and government and donuts suddenly have a higher price tag then days of old. But there is no old stale taste here at all. Any donut, fritter, eclairs or pastry will tantalize your taste buds and have you...
Read moreI LOVE the donuts here. What I don’t like is the older white lady who works there attitude. She was extremely friendly with the older gentleman in front of me. When it was my turn I greeted her she gave a half smirk and didn’t say anything. I told her I needed 2 dozen donuts. She grabbed boxes I started to rattle off what I wanted in the first box. I said I’d like a honey dew donut. She responded with an attitude “WHATS THAT?!” So I pointed and said the donut that says honey dew under it. I asked where I was at because I lost count she clearly had an attitude and said you have 5 more in this box. I told her the next box is all cake. I hurried with my choices paid. Told her to have a good day and she yelled have a good day. I’m never one to throw in the race card but her micro aggression and irritation with me leads me to believe me being black is the only reason why she behaved the way she did. Fortunately the other workers in there are kind and friendly. The next time I go in there hopefully her attitude will change. I wish I had gotten her name but I...
