A Gander at the Gastronomic Wonderland - The Goose Eatery & Hangout
Five stars? My friends, The Goose Eatery & Hangout deserves a constellation of stars, perhaps an entire galaxy! It's more than a culinary treat, it's an epicurean amusement park - the kind where you don't need height requirements to ride!
From the moment I walked in, the ambience practically honked 'Welcome!' in a dulcet tone only an upscale goose might muster. This is the new birdhouse of our beloved owner who once ran the Goose Creek Diner, the legendary joint that turned more tables than a wrestling match at a furniture store.
And what a joyous reunion it was, seeing all the familiar faces. The staff here might as well be an Olympic relay team - prompt, efficient, and always passing the torch (or in this case, orders) with an effortless charm. One could argue they are quicker than internet gossip.
The owner himself, a man as charismatic as a late-night talk show host but with significantly better food, came over to our table for a chat. His request for feedback was as genuine as the homemade Creek Sauce, which by the way, will make you want to build a small cabin and live happily within its tangy, creamy depths.
I mentioned I admired the wall decorations - his wife's handiwork. A fine eye she has, making you feel as if you're dining in a Martha Stewart-approved aviary. I was half expecting a complementary origami goose by the end of my meal!
Then the Sweet Chili Salmon. Oh. My. Goose. This dish was a veritable Loch Ness Monster – you wouldn't believe it exists until you experience it yourself. The flavors swam together like synchronized swimmers in an Olympic-sized pool of deliciousness.
And the carrot cake? Drizzled in caramel syrup, this slice of heaven has no business being legal. It was a Freudian dream in confectionery form - complex, indulgent, and giving you a whole new understanding of your relationship with desserts. If this cake was a person, I’d vote for it in the next election.
But, the showstopper? The encore performance from Goose Creek Diner – the Fried Green Tomatoes with Creek Sauce. It was as if Sinatra came back for one last gig. Iconic, nostalgic, and definitely brought the house down.
In conclusion, if The Goose Eatery & Hangout were a movie, it would sweep the Oscars, be the highest grossing film of all time, and probably develop its own fandom. But, alas, it's a restaurant. A superb, glorious, quacking good restaurant. So get down here, and prepare to have your taste buds...
Read moreWe went to The Goose last night for the first time. The restaurant was pretty, modern, and very clean. We were greeted by a very friendly, very tall man, and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was Stan, and he took great care of us all evening.
We started off with the fried green tomatoes. They came out quickly and VERY HOT! They are the best I've ever tasted. They were coated in the crispiest, most flavorful coating imaginable! The tomatoes were super tangy & delicious. They were served with a tangy & spicy dip. It was excellent! That dip would go well on anything!
I've had a LOT of shrimp & grits in my life. Coming from Maryland, I know good seafood, too. This huge portion of shrimp & grits was hands down, the best I've ever had! Every single ingredient was perfectly prepared!! Even the least of them was thoughtfully done. The finely diced onions, celery, and peppers were all cut uniform, ensuring they all cooked evenly. The spices were bold and super flavorful. There was just enough spice to enhance all the natural flavors. The gravy was SO good! The sausage and shrimp were incredible. The grits were creamy and delicious!! There isn't anything remotely negative that I can say about this dish! (It was also served with 2 perfectly baked, scratch made, bread sticks.)
My friend got the traditional hot brown. It made an impactful impression when they sat it on the table! It was HUGE and beautiful!! The robust flavors in the cheese sauce were mind-blowing! I tasted it, and my eyes just closed while it melted in my mouth. (I'd eat that sauce off the ground. It was that good!!) There was a ton of turkey on it, and I'm talking real turkey. It didn’t appear to be deli turkey at all. The acid from the tomatoes went great with the rich cheese sauce. The bacon was abundent and perfectly cooked!
My friend ordered the lemon, berry, blueberry cake dessert. I was full, but she insisted I take a bite. Im so glad I did! HOLY COW!!!!! Do not leave without getting this dessert! If you're full, take it to go, like we did. We've all seen the lemon blueberry combination, but I dare you to find one better than this! Tons of lemon flavor and lots of blueberries along with that moist cake were insanely delicious!!
Neither of us finished our meals so we got to take home leftovers!! YAY!!! (I've already eaten mine and it is just as delicious as last night!!)
We're already planning our next trip to The Goose! Do yourself a favor and go there...
Read moreOrdered on line through the link that their website is their preferred link over Toasty, DoorDash, Uber, Grubhub, etc. I ordered at 11:00. I paid and included a tip to insure promptness. i received a message that pick up time was 11:16. I arrived a 11:28. They could not find my order in their system. I showed them my screen shot of the order from their system. They advised they were working on their system but they could not explain why other pick up orders were recieved and prepared. They said they could put it in now. They did not advise how long it would be but the online system says 15 minutes. I advised I could not wait. I had a dog in the car and meeting which is why I scheduled the pick up for a specific time. I asked for a refund. After a couple minutes of going back in forth to the kitchen snd other computers, they claim they credited my refund on line but they could not print it out to verify. I was there for approximately 10 minutes. They apologized and said they could have had it out in 5 minutes when they offered to make it. If I had known they could do it that quickly and that they were going to make me be there 10 minutes to look for my order, receipt, refunds, etc. that would have been the preferred remedy. Not a...
