Pollo Campero — Restaurant in Lynwood

To me, excellent food is one of the greatest pleasures on Earth. I pulled over to handle some phone work when I smelled a range of spices dancing in the air coming from this restaurant. In the US, where salt and pepper is too much spice, I knew I had to try it (I have found some great places this way). With my small sampler, I knew I would be back. Top of the list, the grilled chicken! This is what I smelled and I am still doing my happy dance. Juicy and buttery on the inside, the grilled chicken had a full body of deep spices that was perfectly satisfying and delicious. This IS the find for people watching their waistlines, but still carve great chicken. Let's talk about the flan. I have had so many styles of flan and respect their various heritages, but I have a strong preference for the super creamy and dense custard that you see in Europe. It's here. Do yourself a favor and get it for a decadent experience. Just a sidenote, the packaging at this restaurant is elevated. I had an amazing experience at Pollo Campero thanks to one of their employees. When I placed my order through the app, it said it would take about 50 minutes. I decided to check in at the restaurant just a few minutes later, and although I didn’t catch his name ( I was here 8/20 at approx 5:10 pm.), the employee at the counter was extremely helpful and told me he’d make sure my order was ready in about 10 minutes. I went back to wait in my car, and to my surprise, just a few minutes later he came outside, knocked on my window, and personally brought my food to me. The chicken is great when it's fresh and fried hard, but that is a rare occurance. The fried chicken is incredibly fatty to the point of it being a bit gross when you get that pocket of unrendered chicken fat. The fries are always cold everytime I order them and the jalapeno ranch tasted like it was close to spoiling last time I had it, it could just be that it was warm when I asked for it with the salad I ordered. The service is not the best here, although the workers seem to enjoy working with each other. Lastly, the chicken is expensive, like most things these days, so I would expect it to be better.
