After some recommendations, we decided to try out this unique second floor restaurant. The food online looked great and the view over the lake would be perfect for a Sunday evening family dinner. The photos and little museum there starts off with a great atmosphere for a sea food place. The view of the marina was great until we sat down to find bugs and dirty windows obstructing our view. Our server greeted us in a The Office T-shirt and grabbed our drinks. Our drinks came back with mine being the completely wrong drink. Didn't know a maker's mark neat was a hard order. Sent it back, only to get the same drink back without ice. They got the neat part right. I got the right drink next, only to find it in a dirty cup. Bourbon cleans drink glasses out right? I hit screw it. My wife's drink, the Michigan mule, was great. So we ordered our food to gaze out on the marina through windows that hadn't been cleaned in a long while. We were supposed to get bread while we wait but our server seemed to have forgotten that along with their work shirt. Oh wait, Alex found their work shirt when they brought out our food. Looking nice. Our food looked good except the cooks seemed to forget to keep my wife's food warm while cooking other dishes. Yummy, cold shrimp and green beans. My in laws found their fish about as over cooked then an Irish person sun bathing on the beach. Whereas my chicken tenders were actually really good. Odd thing to get right in a sea food establishment. We got about half way through eating our food and we asked for the bread hoping they would be as good as Texan Roadhouse, maybe find a redeeming quality of the place outside the tenders and mule. We got the bread only to find it was tough and just ok. The butter we got in those little plastic containers like from hotel breakfasts. Now after this, we get the check to see the damage to our wallets that our stomaches were dealing with now. For how expensive this tourist trap is, we realized they were only full at the moment because there isn't any competition against it in the area. I don't often give 1 stars but dear god this place gave me too many reasons to give just that.

We are in town for Labor Day weekend and our anniversary. We came here for a nice anniversary dinner even after reading all the negative reviews. We wanted to experience it for ourselves and make our own conclusions. We had the nicest waiter. I asked him how business had been and he stated very slow this season.I have to assume it is in part from all the negative reviews. That being said, yes, it’s is more on the pricey side. Especially for the portion size . But, it also has the best view IMO of all MC. You sit high and at the waters edge of the marina. It’s an amazing view and the interior decor is truly a marvel from the moment you enter the ground level !!! You then take stairs or elevator to the main floor (2ndfloor) which is the restaurant . It’s visually stunning and clean . They have over 30 beers on tap at a reasonable price of $7 . I had the wedge salad (which is supposed to be half a bibb lettuce ) but was precut into pieces and not sliced in half so I’m not sure if it was truly half but todays produce like everything else is not as grandeoso as in past. It was otherwise delicious and everything else as stated . My husband had the walleye and although it was $35 it was a very nice meaty piece fried golden delicious served with fries AND a side of yummy greens . His portion size was very generous and very good. So in conclusion, yes, it was on the pricey side however if you want to be wowd by views and the beauty of marine decor this is truly a gem!!! Our waiter and all the others deserve a chance. We are glad we took it.

The view at The Hook is wonderful. There are a lot of stairs to climb to get there. That's just fine by me but I was thinking elderly and disabled wouldn't make it up there. Then I saw there was an elevator. Whew. We didn't use it but I figure it is in working order as we did see folks who wouldn't have gotten up there via stairs. Our waitress was sweet and friendly. She was a bit overwhelmed but of course she was. She is a restaurant server during a pandemic with lots of changes and the possibility of getting sick. I was impressed with her attitude. Oddly there was no social distancing regarding table space and lines. We arrived a bit after 5 pm on a Monday. There was plenty of empty tables so we felt comfortable dining inside. Well. Right after being seated the place got packed. And a long line stretching down the stairs. We had to pass too close to a lot of people on the way down. The menu is small but that usually means they are doing those items on the menu really well. I had the salmon with lime mango salsa and rice. The salmon was nicely cooked and with a perfect char. The salsa and rice were serious fails. The mango salsa was attractive with mangoes, tomatoes, and red onion. The flavor was overwhelmingly fishy. Seriously, if you closed your eyes and took a bite you'd smell fish and tadte fish. There was zero expected salsa flavor. The rice was dry. My husband had the fish basket and that was ok.

While on vacation in Mackinaw City, we had been looking forward to eating at the Hook for two days prior to going for dinner.

We had a great experience getting drinks from the bar while waiting for our table. The service was prompt and the drinks were delicious.

We were quickly seated at a table over looking the lake, which we were thrilled about. Unfortunately the experience took a turn at this time. It took 20 minutes for our server, Rudhix, to even come to our table. We were ready to order more drinks, water, and food by the time he got to our table. About 10 minutes after we placed our order the bartender delivered the drinks. 20 minutes after ordering we had not received our waters or seen our server again. We asked another kind server for help and she promptly brought our waters. We waited another 20 minutes before our food was delivered by our server.

When the server came to deliver the food he said nothing while placing the plates. Our group had ordered the Caesar salad, Bibb Wedge Salad, Muscles, and baked potatoes. Based on the condition of our food we believe it had been sitting for quite some time before being delivered as the salads were soggy and two of the potatoes were cold. After another 20 minutes our server had not checked in on us so we asked another server to get our server so we could ask for the cold food to be taken off the bill.

When the server came to the table he immediately rolled his eyes and began preparing the bills. I told him we had a 10% coupon to which he didn’t respond. The first thing he said was “whose am I taking this off”. We were confused if he was asking about the 10% off or the cold food. We received more eyes rolls and scoffs when asking for clarification. One person in the group clarified that she had a cold potato and would like it to be removed from her bill. He did not respond and started printing the bills out. We noticed the 10% was not included and he said when he ran the card it would be taken off. He forgot to include the 10% off for one party member. He rolled his eyes, threw his head back, scoffed and asked for her card back. She returned the card and he said she would have a hold on her card. When the group asked for clarification for what a hold on her card meant he again rolled his eyes before explaining. He tapped the card again, threw his head back and walked away without saying a word, with the card still.

Since we were not understanding what was going on and why we were being treated with eye rolls and sighs when we had been extremely patient and respectful, even when disappointed with our experience, so we asked another server if she could get a manager. She then asked us what the problem was. We asked her if she was a manager and she said yes. We explained to her the situation and how we were being treated with eye rolls and scoffs and how we not gotten any service during our visit. Unfortunately instead of acknowledging us she defended the server and disregarded our complaints and concerns stating that Rudhix was also a manager.

When he returned to the table we asked why he was rolling his eyes, scoffing, and treating us like he was mad at us. He denied acting that way. We received zero apologies for how we were treated or the lack of service we received.

Overall a terrible experience. We tried to call to speak with someone and it goes straight to a voicemail that is not set up, so we felt leaving this review was the...

We were the first customer day. we arrived at 1100 hrs and was gone by 1105, dirty tables, over prices food, and worst of all the staff was rude and disrespectful. I actually had to look for cameras I thought I may have actually been on a hidden camera show. all of this took place place in the span of 5 minutes. as we walk in the sign read open. the website read they were open at 11. we walk in party of 3. The bartender looked at us in disgust like we were a inconvenience. Even after my daughter complimented her on her nice shoes, she ignored the compliment.

as we sit down there is a guy sweeping under the tables. there were half lemons and food debri all over. we were the first customers of the day so this had to be from the previous night which I thought was weird that the management with allow their staff to leave a dirty restaurant overnight. I asked the man if he could clean our table because it was sticky from the night before and his exact words were well we get here at 10:30 and open up at 11 you guys showed up right at 11. I was kind of taken aback by his response because it’s not my responsibility to show up after the restaurant is clean the Internet, the sign the open sign all indicated that they opened at 11. And so after that comment he goes and gets some spray, and he wildly starts spray on the table while my wife and I are sitting down and my daughter, and then he takes his hand and he touches the table as it to see if it was sticky. Once he did that I did mention to him I said you don’t trust me and telling you that the table is sticky and I told him you can look at the floors and probably agree that the tables would be sticky, so I looked at my wife I looked at my daughter and there was no way I was going to spend $40 for pork chop plate for over $50 for a steak. The view was beautiful. The restaurant seem like it was a really beautiful place but the dirty tables and rude staff was just something I could not give my money to so as I’m walking out there’s another guy sweeping other tables at the bar area and I asked if I could see the manager , he said he was the manager as I’m telling him the story. The first guy comes out from the area that we were sitting at and begins to argue his case and of course everything he says is lies. The manager never once tried to show leader ship and tell the server to go do his job and he would handle it. It was the most elementary acting leader ship, and staff I’ve ever seen . I never want to tell people not to eat somewhere or not to do something because of my experience I just want to let you guys what happened to me and my family the first five minutes we were there as the first customers. Now we’re down the street at some Jamaican place and I’m so thankful that we came here. Staff is friendly attentive. The place is clean and they’re ready for service. The name of this place is called taste of Di Island Eatery haven’t even tasted the food yet, but they’ve put a smile on my face compared to, The Hook Grill. Update: the food at Di Island was so good! It will now be a place to visit while in town. ...

We have made sure to include this beautiful restaurant on any trip to the area since it opened. The atmosphere is wonderful and the view is amazing. However, our visit on 10/7/24 will be our last visit there. As expected, there was a wait. Time was going fairly quick and people were getting seated just as more customers were rolling in. We had about five or six tables in front of us. After we waited for 15 minutes a large group of about 12 came in. They were passing the word on their group that their name was put in but no time frame on how long their wait was. Within four minutes they had a table...before us. Ok, maybe they just wanted to make room in the waiting area. Our name was called and the host took us to our table. Our dirty table. After he cleaned it, we sat and were excited to start our dining. As we sat we noticed all the fellow waiting customers that came in after us were also all sat around us. As we were still waiting for any acknowledgement from a waiter, the tables that were sat after us got service. Finally our waitress came. My husband got a draft beer, I got the Michigan Mule and we ordered the lobster poutine for an appetizer. My husband's beer came right away and I was told mine is coming. Tables all around us are being served food and drinks and our waitress is playing one of many to come disappearing acts. I finally got my drink when my husband finished of his beer and we ordered our dinner. After about 15 minutes the waitress comes out and mumbled they could not make the poutine because they didn't have the lobster bisque but if we wanted to wait 20 minutes they would have it. We said no thanks, dinner will be fine. I did a mental note to make sure that $17.99 appetizer wasn't on our bill. After that we sat and sat, watching all the waiters walking around with frowns, tables changing over around us and we still are not eating. The waitress comes out and says my fish is holding up the order....my broiled whitefish. Thank goodness our bread came! Because we had so much free time we were people watching. We noticed a couple was sat behind us and they actually got up after 20 minutes of never being waited on. I felt super bad for them but I bet their night ended better than ours! The food came and my husbands bison burger came overcooked while my fish, the meal that was holding everything up, was barely cooked. I enjoyed my baked potato and ate around the outside of the fish to get the cooked part. Based on the staffs attitude, there was no way I was comfortable sending the food back. Our waitress again disappeared and we sat and sat waiting for our bill. When it finally came, it was a tad higher than expected, $127! For two people....the unserved poutine was on bill. Ok, enough is enough. This whole experience just ruined the place for me. We are oo with higher prices but we feel the service should match what you are paying for. High end prices and cuisine require high end service. I don't usually do reviews but I really want other folks to reconsider when in the area. We all work hard for our money and we felt like we just threw...
